Paul Pierce on the comments saying Jaylen Brown analytics wise he’s the 7th best player on the Celtics: “I mean this is getting ridiculous. It’s gotten to the point where I’m no longer going to start watching any of the networks about sports. Like seriously this is just come... on. I just feel like it’s clickbait. It doesn’t make sense. Like don’t even make that public. If an analytic dude said that and he told you, why would you make that public? Because it sounds silly. Jaylen Brown was a MVP candidate. Now you’re saying, uh, does he do the things that Luka and Wemby? Well, okay. Yeah, the stats on these guys going to look a little different, but there’s one thing you can’t say about Jaylen Brown he influences winning.” (Via No Fouls Given)show more

Paul Pierce says Jaylen Brown should have been first team All-NBA over Luka Doncic: “I know that’s saying a lot because Luka did lead the league in scoring, but he had more to work with, too. Think about it. He had LeBron all year. You got Reaves, you know, a lot of most of the year. Jaylen Brown, he did the most with the least out of all these guys that’s on this and maybe Cade Cunningham. I mean, you know, but Jaylen Brown didn’t have a second All-Star. A lot of these guys did. You know what I’m saying? So, I would have probably removed Luka for Jaylen.” (Via No Fouls Given)

Paul Pierce on Jaylen Brown getting traded to the 76ers: “I mean, I’m a little disappointed, but I’m not surprised because the writing was on the wall. I mean, this has been speculation for some months now. It wasn’t like the Luka trade where it was like shocking. You know what I’m saying? There’s a difference it came out of nowhere this one was like, “All right, it’s going to happen.” Like we almost knew it. It was like when though. You know I don’t know what happened by the scenes… It’s like if you have a family member who’s dying and it’s like when they die you like you saw it coming. It sucks but you know and like when it happens it’s like out of the blue it’s different.” (Via No Fouls Given)

Carmelo Anthony says he don’t like how the Jaylen Brown trade went down: “I just don’t like how it just don’t feel right. You get what I’m saying? It just don’t feel right. The treatment of all of that. You get what I’m saying? Like the fact that you’re two years removed from a championship, finals MVP, first team all defense. Could have been defensive player of the year if Wemby wasn’t in like it’s almost led them boys back to the promise land. Prove to everybody that he could do it. I’m not just saying it’s about JB. I’m just saying about how quickly it moves on.” (Via 7PM in Brooklyn)

Draymond Green says the Jaylen Brown situation threw him for a loop: “I’m just like all of a sudden a guy being smart is an issue. Like, by the way, I think I’m pretty smart individual. I think I got a pretty decent head on my shoulders. Jaylen Brown is brilliant. I don’t pretend to be that smart. I don’t want anybody to think I think I’m that smart, but he is like he actually is that smart. And when I say smart, right, like as you know, there’s book smarts, there’s street smarts, there’s so many different type of smarts when you’re talking smart. But the smart that Jaylen Brown is, he’s book smart. He’s street smart. The things that he knows and that he understands.” (Via The Draymond Green Show)

Paul Pierce on Nick Wright comments saying he don’t like Joel Embiid bringing his kid to postgame interview after a loss: “First off Nick Wright says the most ridiculous things. Period. I mean, I’m not a fan. He knows it. You know, he says some of the most ridiculous things because he’s pissed off. Suddenly, this is something that the players have been doing this for decades. Like decades. Now, it’s a problem somebody lose and have their kids up there. It’s okay when you win now. Few weeks ago he called a kid a clown. Like come on though. What is sports reporting? What is this? Like what really is he talking about? Like seriously, bro. I can’t stand this dude.” (Via No Fouls Given)

Bob Myers on how the Jaylen Brown trade went down to get him to Philadelphia: “Jaylen Brown was not like we lost the Knicks and we’re going to go get Jaylen Brown. Like that’s not what happened. It just that’s not what happend. Then you start hearing there was a possibility and the job then became is this a real thing with Jaylen Brown. Is it a real thing? And you know, I think Brad Stevens is one of the most straight shooters in the league. So when you work in the NBA as an executive you ultimately usually have at least one or two I don’t want to say transactions with every other GM. So, you know, if I call Trace, hey, you want to make a deal? He might be like, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.” And then he doesn’t I mean, it’s like I know you’re not this way, but you have to understand like he’s honest or he might tell me what I want to hear or he might lie to me. This dude just might lie. He lied to me two years ago. He’s going to lie to me again. That’s not Brad Stevens. So, when Brad Stevens responded with, “What are you offering?” Then you knew that there was a shot.” (Via Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady)

Paul Pierce on the Jayson Tatum–Jaylen Brown situation: “You got to understand these guys, they’ve been together for quite a while now. I’ve been around them. They’re good friends. They truly don’t care who gets the credit. I mean, we saw Brown had a magnificent run a couple years ago. He won MVP honors of the Eastern Conference and the NBA championship. And there was no jealousy. They like, “Hey, okay, if it’s time for Brown to lead them right now, if that’s what it’s going to take for them to win, Tatum’s willing to sacrifice that.” (Via No Fouls Given)

Jayson Tatum spoke at length about his reaction to the Jaylen Brown trade today: “The NBA is an incredible business; it’s an incredible job, but there are some downsides to the business and moments like this, where you just kind of feel like you’re going to be on the team with somebody, because that’s all you know. And then it’s just like, one day you find out that they’re no longer on your team anymore. And, we’re all humans. We feel all those emotions. Paul Pierce on Colin Cowherd comments saying Jaylen Brown has a disease of thinking he’s the smartest guy in the room, that’s why he got traded: “This is gotta be the lamest sh*t of a excuse of somebody to get traded of all-time. When Luka got traded I understood it, “Oh he didn’t do this, he’s out of shape.” You know, when like big names get traded it’s always something that comes out. You’re the smartest guy in the room, he believes that? And his analytics didn’t add up? But they won 50 plus games and they was second in the East, you hear what I’m saying? These are the reasons he supposedly left a sour taste in the organization mouth to get traded? I can’t believe this.” (Via No Fouls Given)

“The criticism about Jaylen Brown from the nerd community is not that he’s a bad player, or that he’s inefficient. It’s that he doesn’t make the players around him better. It’s that the Celtics were worse with him on the floor. Including this year when he was the man.” -Tim MacMahon

Paul Pierce says he’s been saying all year that the Detroit Pistons aren’t very talented: “That’s why he deserves coach of the year for having them number one. Because after Cade Cunningham like who’s their second best player? Duren who’s an All-Star if he’s your second best player why is he only getting 4 shots in the first game of the playoffs? Like what’s going on? Is that a player thing or is that a coaching thing? How does he 4 shots and make 3 he was 75% from the field, is that a coaching thing or a player thing? Like, think about it if you’re a player, this talks about your team IQ first of all. Because if I’m a high IQ player, because I’m really like during a timeout you’re looking up at the score, you’re looking up at turnovers, you’re looking up at rebounds and shots, you’re looking at who got what. And you looking up and you see Jalen Duren got 2 points and it’s the third quarter, you not going to say nothing In the timeout? Like, I’m going to be like hold on dog, this dude average 20 and 10 what are we doing fellas, me as the best player would do that. Like we need to get him the ball, it’s his night. Like come on dog. Let’s do something better than that. Like where is the IQ outside of the coaching staff within the players? So, now if you’re number one seed that questions leadership, where is the leadership coming from in the Pistons locker room.” (Via No Fouls Given)
