He was a political activist working with an anti-ICE rapid response team who left home carrying a gun with the premeditated intention of breaking fed law by obstructing & interfering in a Federal Law Enforcement operation while carrying a gun, which is an additional criminal violation. If you are planning to break the law & then do so, carrying a firearm is an additional criminal act. It's why the penalty for armed robbery is much more severe than simple robbery. Yes, carrying a gun while standing across the street protesting is protected by the 2nd amendment and should be. Carrying a loaded weapon while breaking federal, state & local law isn't protected by the 2nd and hasn't been for a very long time.
