screen sizes were relatively fixed back then. so you could dev this kind of thing based on sliced raster images and be done...

No design systems and border radius rules in sight. Pure creativity and nothing else.

But did you do an a/b test on this and what are the goal metrics? No and no. Just made something we thought was cool.
