any vfx editors willing to share on the secrets on how to make the hats stay and rotate around the head so smoothly? just a 3d track around the head, attaching the hats and that's it?

Pretty much. It helps a ton if the 3d head you used for tracking is the same size as the one in the video. The hat will fit better around the head and it saves time in the comp process
