This is my AMD thunderbird with a voodoo 5 5500 😳

(Yes this is an actual PC game screenshot)

Nostalgia just hit hard! I ran that on this thing!

I worked in a Special Reserve shop in '98 when I school after A-Levels. I absolutely loved playing with the latest games and newest tech, especially as I was still running a 486DX/4 at home. Unreal was the first time I saw transparent water in a game, blew me away.

🙌🏻

Voodoo 3 on everyone's list back in the day.

It was so mind blowing at the time, the graphics, the lighting. Still looks pretty good, but back then it was such a leap forward.

Had a big tower PC build in 1999: Celeron 400 (Mendocino) + Matrox Millennium G200. Inside was also a Soundblaster Live! and Unreal was included with the sound card. Being used to games like Doom, I was totally blown away.

The main difference between Pentium II and III was L1, L2 caches, and bus speeds. A few kilobytes more cache and 100MHz bus speed instead of 66MHz. We were treating them like super computers. I still look at this info while deciding CPU. An unnecessary habit of mine.

I remember when a Pentium III sticker was peak

This was a Huge Flex back in the day lol

That Unreal intro blew me away when I first saw it. Easily my most 'wow' moment when it came to real time graphics.

Pentium 166mmx, riva tnt2 + voodoo 2.. my first after commodore 64 and amiga..

I have the same config but with a K6-2

Love! I´ve had the Diamond Viper V770 Ultra AGP-card back than and played UT in OpenGL. Spent hours and hours on servers all over the world. So many genius mods I´m still missing it all....

why does the video look too good for this screen?

I ran the Voodoo 3 with an AMD K6-2 550...what a time to be alive! Was a solid upgrade from my Nvidia TNT2 + Voodoo 2 combo!

Right in the feels. This and the Half Life transit system is forever ingrained in my memories. Good times.

Voodoo 3dfx brings it all back baby

The first time you see a 3D accelerated game, you never forget it. Mine was quake 2 in a voodoo banshee!

Doesn't it piss you off that Epic cancelled the latest Unreal Tournament working multiplayer alpha with private server support just so they could work on Fortnite?

i remember going to costco as a kid and seeing a computer that was 300mhz and i was like holy fucking shit that’s insane haha

very nostalgic. i didn't have a voodoo card but i had the geforce 256 back in '99 and i can still remember being wow'd by the unreal intro

This era was so good, man. Computers felt like magic and the jumps in hardware improvements were unbelievably big between generations.

i need to build a system that's just amazing by 98-99 standards and then play everything i missed out on from that era

Good times for gamers

@coffnix

The 90s had a very impressive technological jump on vidéo games

must be an only child with divorced parents both with well paying jobs you even got the front panel sound blaster audio drive thing that I only actually saw in magazines

The fucking good ol days!

I used to just sit an watch this menu screen.

Mmmmm vodoo 3

Number 9 Revolution was my GPU

Many people will now discover that Unreal is a game.
