This is sooooo interesting actually. It feels spiritually wrong to have such a talented vocalist singing so dynamically on a midwest emo song and i mean that genuinely. Part of the aesthetic of the genre to me is the rawness of the lyrics combined with the rawness of the style.

I’ve had people ask me how I choose what to highlight. What are you thinking of when you're doing this? And my response is: Nothing. I just read and if something jumps out to me I don't think at all, I just underline it. And then I'll go back through and reread all my highlights. And if that part is still interesting, it was interesting the first time, now it's interesting the second time, it's probably interesting to other people. There's 10 million mes out there. I'm not unique. And there's no way that if I read this line twice and found it interesting that if I read it on a podcast that somebody else is not going to think it's interesting too. [about 'standing next to you'] 🐰 let me tell you when i first heard this song. after andrew and i finished recording 'seven' he played this song again. i wasn't immediatly drawn to the song, but there was a grandeur to it when i heard it. 🐰 there was no choreography or performance at that point. but then i realized that it would be really cool to do something onstage, and i just kind of came up with these drawings. so i think it's a very appropriate song for the title of this 'golden' album.
