People aren’t growing up because adulthood doesn’t come with many comparative perks anymore This is where Disney adults and "I'm just a girl" come from Some of this is because we've made childhood REALLY bougie. If you have all the perks of adulthood as a kid, why would you...

Yes! Add to that a cultural obsession with youth and you have a perfect storm

Lots of people didn't have great childhoods, and they're making up for it now. Spoiling themselves now that they have money.

Idk, I mostly see this amongst people whose childhoods were fine. As someone who had a rough childhood, I don't relate to that impulse at all really

You are only one person. Even the other people you see are only the people you, as one person, can see.

I mean, sure, but then neither of us has anything to add to this convo haha

We’ve also made adulthood worse - nightlife for example is objectively worse than it was 10 years ago

I like being a married parent, but can understand why adulthood only brings suffering if you don't have the purpose and relationships that few things other than spouse and children can bring. It's like childhood except your family is aging and dying.

Also virtually every employer still treats you like a teenager even at 25

We have gotten into the habit of referring to older teenagers as Young Adults, c.f. the Young Adult section of the library. When 15-17 think of themselves that way, there is no incentive for them to launch to actual adulthood especially since parents and children are now friends

Adulthood comes with serious perks Case and Point

Okay but like...young people are even drinking, partying, and having coed sleepovers (that their parents allow!) this is a great example of something a lot of people aren't waiting on anymore

Right, there's nothing to look forward to for many. Few are buying homes. Few are having relationships. Few are having kids.

Not only is there not very many perks anymore there's also the fact that growing up requires being able to care for another's needs above their own. They would rather only have to care for the person in the mirror. People used to not be so spoiled.

I have a very smart girlfriend who does her best to pass off as a basic white girl with Ugg’s and Starbucks because in her own words, nothing good comes from being smart. Pretty much the same attitude for adulthood.

Their parents failed them if somehow they believe that they can’t actually be an adult. Especially if the parents continue to financially support indolence. Humans need to find purpose and meaning in life, not be vapid slugs.

I wonder if the children who grew up during the great depression or during plagues wanted to stay children forever because “it doesn’t come with many comparative perks”

People don't grow up because of perks and incentives, they grow up because they learn responsibility, accountability, and wisdom. What you've said here is that this generation lacks all three.

I like that you talk at an adult cadence in your video

I’m not sure what this means but thank you

Adults nowadays talk like teenagers, slowly, unnecessary pauses, zoomer slang when they're 50, etc. I just thought it was fitting that in a video about delayed adulthood you demonstrated what an adult sounds like.

Was the wedding ring taken off for a purpose today? Does your husband know about this?

California residential neighborhood where homes cost $900k is now overrun with homeless tents. The neighborhood kids can’t even ride their bikes outside anymore Brookerteejones “This is a neighborhood in California. This isn't downtown LA. This is a neighborhood where families live, where houses in this neighborhood range from around 800 to $900,000. And this is what the people wake up to every day. No longer can their little kids ride their bikes on the sidewalks. No longer can people walk their dogs or elderly people go for a walk because their sidewalks are full of this along with this. Not only is it dangerous, but it is not saf sanitary. Where do these people go? The bathroom? Well, they go the bathroom outside in the streets. So people are walking literally through human poop. Also, people have propane tanks. Fires have been caused because of these encampments. The city does nothing about it. The neighbors have complained over and over again, but nothing is done. Can you imagine if this was built in Gavin Newsom's neighborhood, in Nancy Pelosi's neighborhood, in Mayor Karen Bass's neighborhood? They wouldn't stand for this for one bit. But the people here, they have to live with it. No one does anything about it. The encampments continue to get larger and larger and larger. This is Gavin Newsom's California. And the people here that live in this neighborhood, they want their life back. They want their cities and streets cleaned up.”
