I am deeply saddened to hear that a boat carrying 90 people capsized on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe today. The boat, owned by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), a government agency, was on Lake Kariba when it capsized. The head of RIDA is quoted as saying that the situation is “not sounding good at all,” although some people have been rescued. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was on the boat and with their families during this extremely difficult and anxious time. I am hoping and praying for the best, particularly for the safe rescue of those who are still unaccounted for.

I strongly condemn the brutal and unjustified lathi charge on our Hindu brothers who were peacefully protesting at the sacred Matha Muthyallamma Temple in Secunderabad. It is deeply disturbing that when our religious sentiments are attacked and idols desecrated, we are not even allowed to raise our voices in a peaceful manner. The real question is: who ordered this lathi charge? Those responsible for desecrating the temple should be facing action, not the devotees who seek justice. Why is it that Hindus are always taken for granted? This is a clear example of the Congress party's appeasement politics, where the concerns of the majority are consistently ignored. We demand accountability and justice for this attack on our faith, and we will not be silenced.

I WELCOME MY ARREST. THIS RUNS IN MY BLOOD. But I warn the govt against the arrest of our peaceful Akali workers. This is a broad daylight murder of democracy, civil liberties and human rights. Where are the champions of human rights today? Kejriwal is resorting to these repressive and dictatorial measures just to divert people’s attention away from the loot of Punjab and Punjabis by outsiders. Shiromani Akali Dal will not only fight this loot of the resources of our state and our people but also stand by the people who are enduring this dictatorial misrule of AAP. I accept the challenge thrown to all Punjabis by this govt of non-Punjabis and their puppets.
