The only people who romanticize the Victorian era are the unschooled. It only takes a reading of Dickens to disillusion anyone. (Also, colonialism singularly saved England from its trajectory of poverty & decline in Victorian times)

I've read stories of how corsets had women's colons so wrecked they couldn't hold in their waste and would void randomly. Walking and dropping poop like birds is insane!
