I don't think Ex Hotness is a reliable tell. I've seen lots of Women choose less attractive mates & Women are more often guilted for not choosing personality over looks. It is celebrated for Men choose a partner based on looks but discouraged in Women to do it.

I didn't look into it, but this reminds me of the Dunning–Kruger effect...which is probably an artifact because of ceiling and floor effects + overconfidence. Did they check this?

@VivienneBenet Men tend to overrate themselves more in some studies, but this may just be because men are more often unattractive.

I think that looking at your history is a bad idea if you haven’t dated for marriage before, because in those kind of relationships women date up. So if a women dated for ONS all her life she would prob be dating men more attractive then her options for LTRs
