We continue to struggle with flooding in the city because whenever it rains, our own people use the running water as their trash car to take their garbage. They dump it in the drainage systems which later gets blocked and boom casing floods. We need to make sure we raise children who value the environment enough to know that this activity here affects us all…..

As storm systems move through San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono counties, our region is seeing a mix of rain, mountain snow, runoff, and localized roadway flooding. Combined with increased holiday travel, conditions can change quickly—especially in low-lying areas, desert washes, and mountain passes. RCMP cut this entrance from the highway directly into to hay field for easy access to set up and maintain the CFIA killing field. Not only did they completely tear up the entrance and many parts of the hay fields, when they finally withdrew they just cut down the tape and drove off, leaving the property accessible to anyone from the highway. It took the garlic property owners years to grow in that vegetation to provide cover from the road and security from poachers and trespassers. The RCMP destroyed much of the garlic farm property with their operation. They terrorized, antagonized and provoked the family that was stuck living inside their operation and when they finally withdraw, they leave all the access points completely vulnerable. Top notch work RCMP.

Wow! Look how in Kazakhstan they undermine the ice on the rivers (very similar to the frames from the movie) The video shows the Bukhtarma River in the Altai region of northern Kazakhstan. The ice on it was blown up to protect people and their homes from floods. In spring, ice can accumulate in narrow places in the river, creating blockages - water cannot flow freely, the level rises, and flooding begins. Blasting helps break up the ice so that it moves downstream faster and does not interfere with the water.

Japan (Chiba prefecture) after record heavy rains. Metros, malls, roads got flooded. Such monsoon type of 300mm+/day rains cause flooding even in the most advanced nations. But what can Indians learn? If we don't litter the streets we can at least enjoy clear looking floods in metros and malls :) A note on sewage mixing: Tokyo has 80% combined sewage and rainwater systems, Osaka more than 90%. Just like India. Combined system means sewage mixes with rain water and can gush out through manholes during heavy rains. It does happen in Japan.

Satya Nadella: Microsoft’s latest Wisconsin AI data center keeps yearly water consumption no higher than that of 1 local restaurant. "The cooling loop is filled once and the data centre can operate effectively with zero water consumption. Daily water usage across a year is roughly equivalent to what a single restaurant would use" The mechanism is mainly about replacing evaporative cooling with closed-loop direct-to-chip liquid cooling, so water moves like coolant inside a sealed machine rather than being boiled off into the air. Hot GB200-class AI racks produce too much heat for normal air cooling, so cold liquid is pushed through pipes into the servers and across metal cold plates touching the hottest chips. The liquid enters the rack cool, absorbs heat from the chips through cold plates, then exits the rack at a higher temperature and carries that heat through pipes to a huge cooling system outside the compute floor. Microsoft says Fairwater sends that hot water to cooling “fins” beside the datacenter, where 172 20-foot fans blow air across the fins and dump the heat into the outside air. The important detail is that the air cools the water through metal surfaces, so the water does not need to evaporate the way many older datacenters use cooling towers. The cooled liquid then returns to the servers, repeats the loop, and keeps absorbing heat from the chips. In older data centers, heat is often removed partly through cooling towers. Hot water meets moving air, some water evaporates, and that phase change carries heat away. Effective, but it consumes fresh water continuously. But Firwater is a closed loop because the same coolant keeps circulating through sealed pipes: it absorbs heat from the chips, releases that heat through radiator-like fins, then flows back to the chips again.
