I think Hegseth's objectives are great, as are DOGE's, but Hegseth should exclude the DOD from most DOGE efforts and conduct a top-down, department-by-department review of government personnel and contracts. A slow DOGE approach is better than a fast, disruptive one for defense. Cutting probationary workers and staff at an Fed bloat agency that shouldn't exist isn't the same as cuts in a constitutionally legitimate function like defense. Too many needed people who could solve problems are being pushed out, while too many problematic people remain. Some critical defense functions are nearing failure. A fail-and-fix mentality is fine until it involves national defense, where failure is unacceptable. -IMO
