It must be about 50 years ago that I became acquainted with the intriguing music of Peter Hammill and his Van Der Graaf Generator. Elaborate melodies and poetic and critical lyrics. And now he is performing at the BBC Proms, after two heart attacks. A fragile man, and he struggles somewhat with the song sung beautifully 56 years ago, and yet it moves me deeply.
