Desmond Llewelyn played Q in 17 consecutive Bond films, from From Russia with Love (1963) to The World Is Not Enough (1999), becoming the most-appearing actor in Bond history. The scene where Q introduces the Aston Martin DB5 was the first time audiences saw a range of iconic spy gadgets such as the ejection seat, machine gun, and rotating license plate – a formula that became a trademark of the Bond series. The original DB5 did not have these special features. All the weapons and mechanisms in the film were designed specifically for filming by John Stears' special effects team. The success of GOLDFINGER transformed the Aston Martin DB5 into the most iconic Bond car of all time, to the point that it reappeared in many subsequent Bond films, including GoldenEye, Casino Royale, Skyfall, and No Time to Die.

From Russia With Love is some of the best filmmaking to ever come out of the Bond Franchise. Sean Connery is excellent as 007 per usual, but Robert Shaw is an outstanding & worthy adversary. I love how this story embraces the Cold War & espionage because it shows us a more thoughtful, creative side of Bond. This is in the conversation for best Bond film ever made.

Its rumored that Sean Connery's character in the 1996 movie The Rock is actually an older, imprisoned version of James Bond. Matching age ranges, timelines, and skill sets help line up this theory. In The Rock, the FBI states that John Mason was a British operative jailed in Alcatraz in 1962 who escaped in 1963. 1962 is also the year of the movie Dr. No. In the 1963 sequel From Russia with Love, dialogue even mentions Bond was missing for months, possibly imprisoned before his escape. He was allegedly recaptured for good in 1971, the last year Connery was in an official Bond role. John Mason is a master escape artist, excels in weapons and hand to hand combat, and highly trained by British Intelligence. James Bond is just a code name and would explain why there are multiple people who go by James Bond, and why the Bonds use it so openly. Mason even uses exact dialogue from Connery's Bond era: "But of course you are" When Mason reunites with his estranged daughter in The Rock, it is revealed she was conceived during a one night stand, which would match Bond's history. Ian Fleming initially wanted Alfred Hitchcock to direct the first James Bond movie. It didn't materialise. Cary Grant was also approached to play the character but it didn't work out as he committed to do only one movie. The helicopter scene in "From Russia with Love" (1963) was Terrence Young's idea and is a homage to the scene in Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" (1959). During the filming of this scene, a camera operator's leg was hit by the blades of the helicopter that came in too low and he had to have his foot amputated. Sean Connery too came close to death when an inexperienced pilot flew a little too close, endangering his life. (Sources: 1. LICENCE TO KILL released in the US on this day in 1989. While at the time it was felt to be too dark for a Bond picture it's always been one of the best of the series for me. The stunt work is peak Bond with the truck sequence being a standout.
