They now have maritime drones with air defense missiles on them, which have taken down two Russian fighter jets over Crimea. Of course, in Operation Spiderweb, all the drones that were in the roofs of these tractor-trailers simultaneously emerged, and about a million dollars worth of drones took out, damaged, or destroyed five or six billion dollars worth of strategic aircraft.

Russians are famous for their ability to suffer. But I think at some point, that well of resilience is going to run dry. And now Russian people, including the ones who were on holiday in Crimea, are saying, “What the hell is going on here?” Russian people are realizing that they’ve been lied to, that Ukrainians are fighting ferociously and successfully, and that Russia’s military has been stopped.

Whether they still consider it "home" after years of bombardment, killing of their children and ruining their schools? HODGES: I still believe Crimea is decisive terrain in this war, not only because of what it represents symbolically for Putin. This whole thing started with Crimea, important seaports are there, and ability to project power across Black Sea largely comes from Crimea. But if Russia is no longer able to use any of those ports, and they’ve already had to move Black Sea Fleet out of Sevastopol, it still has airfields there and other military capabilities. If Ukrainians are able to isolate peninsula, Kerch Bridge is eventually going to come down. I’m confident. So when they take out ferries, take out that bridge, or make Russians worry that it is not safe or usable, then isolation of Crimea leads to its loss of real value to Russians, at least for a while. In the meantime, Ukrainians will continue to hit airfields and air defense systems there. I would not anticipate any time soon a direct assault of some sort. They don’t need to do that right now, but I am confident it’s still on their objective list.
