The Tarzan soundtrack was the first Disney soundtrack to be recorded in multiple languages, and was released in 1999. The soundtrack was a worldwide success, selling more than 2 million copies in the U.S. alone. It also won a Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack Album, and the lead single, "You'll Be In My Heart", won both an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

Collins is quoted as saying: “Singing in German was easier than I thought. I was wrong thinking that French would be the easiest language and German the most difficult. I learned the lyrics phonetically. I do not speak German , but I think this language always sounds very good, very elegant. Of course there were one or two problems with the pronunciation. In any case it was very interesting for me to sing in the various languages.”

One of the greatest sound tracks of all time. I remember getting this on cassette while they still lasted. I would replay his songs over and over.

Phil Collins not only recorded the Tarzan soundtrack in English but also took on the challenge of singing in French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This effort was unique because, unlike typical dubbing practices where local artists perform the songs, Collins himself recorded the tracks in these languages.
