Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead has to be seen to be believed. If you haven’t watched this film- directed by the late, great Sidney Lumet- I’m begging you to give this a shot. PSH is a force of nature in this film- as...

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke play brothers who decide to rob their parents' jewelry store in Sidney Lumet’s final film- Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. I can’t stress enough how good great of a final film this is from a legendary director. Everyone here is amazing.

Evening viewing recommendation? Before it leaves Criterion Channel in June, watch Sidney Lumet's BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD (2007). The renowned director brought five decades of cinematic mastery to bear in his final film, a riveting thriller that achieves the weight of Greek tragedy, starring Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Sorcerer turned 49 years old this week. Please believe me when I say you’re doing a disservice to yourself if you haven’t seen this film- it’s a masterpiece. Directed by William Friedkin and featuring Roy Scheider, the acting, story & the filmmaking here are all tremendous. The last 90 minutes of this film, I barely exhaled. I’m begging you to see this if you haven’t already.

A Most Wanted Man is one of the final leading performances Philip Seymour Hoffman gave us before he passed. This is an outstanding espionage thriller that works well irrespective of Hoffman. But mix in Hoffman’s brilliance? You’re left with an exceptional film. I miss PSH.

The Panic in Needle Park is considered Al Pacino’s first major role in a feature film. This came out just one year before The Godfather but all the signs of a generational star are in this performance from Pacino. I strongly recommend you give this a shot if you haven’t seen it.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is only in Almost Famous for a handful of minutes, but he still delivered a scene that always- always- makes me emotional. I’m not sure if it’s because this film pulls me back to my childhood or if it’s because PSH is no longer with us. Probably a combination. This is just such a beautiful moment. Cameron Crowe thank you for this film & all that you do.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is outstanding in the 2009 release Pirate Radio. This film and this performance don’t get talked about for some reason. PSH plays a free-speech loving hippie DJ who sets out to sea so he can broadcast whatever he wants. It’s a great story and performance.

I thought last year’s Ballerina did justice to the John Wick series, largely thanks to the brilliant performance from Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. De Armas is a force of nature in this film & her physicality helps nail the performance. I thought this was a really well-done action film that deserved to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

There’s a parallel universe where The Wiz is a film that every last person in America has seen. Diana Ross & Michael Jackson are so damn good in this film, I don’t even have the words. That’s all without mentioning that my guy Sidney Lumet directed this movie. The Wiz is amazing.

To every last person who follows me on this app: I’m begging you to watch Ryan Gosling’s performance in Half Nelson. This earned Gosling his first Oscar nomination & it’s a film that’s impossible to forget. This movie & this performance is all heart. Give this a shot this weekend

Philip Seymour Hoffman in that car scene with Marisa Tomei isn't acting, it's a man having a full emotional collapse in real time. Lumet called it one of the greatest pieces of acting he'd EVER seen. This movie destroys you. 🎬📺 Before The Devil Know You're Dead ❤️🔥

Good Time is the film that convinced me to take Robert Pattinson seriously. This was the point of no return. This was the performance that changed everything for Pattinson. I don’t know where this came from or how Pattinson pulled this off, but this film started what has turned out to be a generational run from Pattinson. Moreover, the Safdie Brothers had a creative vision with this film & Uncut Gems. You feel that vision every time you visit either film. If you haven’t seen Good Time yet, this could be the weekend.

THE VERDICT [1982] Directed by Sidney Lumet ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I post this clip a few times a year because as I've said over and over, I feel this is Paul Newman's best performance. He drew from decades of experience in both life and in film to play attorney Frank Galvin.

Brendan Fraser gives one of the best performances of his career in this year’s film Rental Family. If you haven’t seen this movie, I’m personally asking you to give it a shot. It’s absolutely worth watching & a piece of real storytelling that we should all support. Love this.

Ethan Hawke gives the performance of a lifetime in Blue Moon. The more I think about the things Hawke pulls off in this film, the more I start to realize that this might be one of those iconic performances we all remember forever. This man absolutely deserves a dance with Oscar.

Jonathan Majors has to be considered for an Oscar this year for his performance in Magazine Dreams. Let me be as clear as possible: I’m not a fan of Majors personally. But Majors is undeniably brilliant in this film. Anyone who’s seen it can attest. The Academy can’t ignore this.

Obsession (🌟🌟🌟🌟) is the 5th best film I’ve seen released in 2026 & it’s now streaming on demand. Inde Navarrette’s performance is Oscar-worthy & the fact this is a horror film shouldn’t hold her performance back from winning awards. I think Curry Baker’s future couldn’t be brighter. See this film if you haven’t, folks, it’s unbelievable.

PSA: If you haven’t seen the film Tuner (🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟) yet, this is the weekend. Now’s your chance. I have been banging this drum since the second I exited the theater after seeing this film. It’s Whiplash meets Uncut Gems. Leo Woodall is that dude. Dustin Hoffman is excellent. I’m personally begging you to see this film, damn it.
