Sorcerer turned 49 years old this week. Please believe me when I say you’re doing a disservice to yourself if you haven’t seen this film- it’s a masterpiece. Directed by William Friedkin and featuring Roy Scheider, the acting, story & the filmmaking here are all tremendous. The last 90 minutes of this film, I barely exhaled. I’m begging you to see this if you haven’t already.

A Most Wanted Man is one of the final leading performances Philip Seymour Hoffman gave us before he passed. This is an outstanding espionage thriller that works well irrespective of Hoffman. But mix in Hoffman’s brilliance? You’re left with an exceptional film. I miss PSH.

The Panic in Needle Park is considered Al Pacino’s first major role in a feature film. This came out just one year before The Godfather but all the signs of a generational star are in this performance from Pacino. I strongly recommend you give this a shot if you haven’t seen it.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is only in Almost Famous for a handful of minutes, but he still delivered a scene that always- always- makes me emotional. I’m not sure if it’s because this film pulls me back to my childhood or if it’s because PSH is no longer with us. Probably a combination. This is just such a beautiful moment. Cameron Crowe thank you for this film & all that you do.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is outstanding in the 2009 release Pirate Radio. This film and this performance don’t get talked about for some reason. PSH plays a free-speech loving hippie DJ who sets out to sea so he can broadcast whatever he wants. It’s a great story and performance.

I thought last year’s Ballerina did justice to the John Wick series, largely thanks to the brilliant performance from Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. De Armas is a force of nature in this film & her physicality helps nail the performance. I thought this was a really well-done action film that deserved to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

There’s a parallel universe where The Wiz is a film that every last person in America has seen. Diana Ross & Michael Jackson are so damn good in this film, I don’t even have the words. That’s all without mentioning that my guy Sidney Lumet directed this movie. The Wiz is amazing.

Good Time is the film that convinced me to take Robert Pattinson seriously. This was the point of no return. This was the performance that changed everything for Pattinson. I don’t know where this came from or how Pattinson pulled this off, but this film started what has turned out to be a generational run from Pattinson. Moreover, the Safdie Brothers had a creative vision with this film & Uncut Gems. You feel that vision every time you visit either film. If you haven’t seen Good Time yet, this could be the weekend.

Inde Navarrette’s performance is Oscar-worthy & the fact this is a horror film shouldn’t hold her performance back from winning awards. I think Curry Baker’s future couldn’t be brighter.
