Every time I speak or listen to Shashi Kumar from Akshayakalpa Organic, I learn something new about food, health, and sustainability. A few things I learned recently: 1. Antibiotic resistance is a global health threat. Due to overuse, germs have become resistant to antibiotics, leading to health complications and deaths. The non-obvious way in which we ingest antibiotics is through dairy and meat. For example, cows that are always tied down tend to catch diseases quickly, and the use of antibiotics becomes necessary to treat them. If a cow is treated with antibiotics, 40% of it shows up in the milk. 2. Death of bees Bees are excellent pollinators, and beekeeping on AK farms has considerably increased coconut yields. Unfortunately, most bee colonies die due to the use of pesticides, habitat loss, and parasites. 3. Loss of organic carbon Organic carbon in soil has dropped to an alarming low of 1%. It needs to be much higher for sustainable farming. The lower the organic carbon content, the lower the fertility of the soil, and the lower the nutrition profile of the produce. An orange from 50 years ago had a much better nutrition profile than today's. For example, one orange from then is better than three oranges today. One way to increase the organic carbon in the soil is to move to more sustainable practices when farming, i.e., organic farming. But today, subsidies on fertilizers and seeds make organic more expensive. Also, consumer support doesn’t exist; maybe if consumers cared about the nutrition profile of what we consume, there would be more demand for organic, and at scale, the price could also drop. AK farms are at 3.6%, took 13 years. We have to change this trend. Maybe it will if younger and more educated folks take up farming and such conversations become mainstream. Farmers definitely need to be able to keep higher margins on their produce and need easy access to credit. AK is trying to solve some of these issues. Healthy soil is not only a growing medium. It is a living system that stores carbon, holds water, cycles nutrients, and supports plant life. This research explores a rapid way to rebuild degraded land using an engineered anthropogenic soil made from biomass leftovers such as rice straw. In the study, the reconstructed soil showed higher organic matter, higher organic carbon, improved pore structure, and a stronger microbial community within weeks. Rice seedlings grown in it also performed better. The larger idea is important: if damaged land can be restored faster, it could support more resilient farming where climate stress and land degradation are already making cultivation harder. A technical loophole that slides it under organic certification rules. So while you think you're buying clean, untouched food, you're actually getting produce treated with compounds that critics warn may leave behind residues like arsenic, lead, cadmium, and palladium.” Mono- and diglycerides are only permitted in organic production for drum drying, not as coatings, Organipeel’s use as a coating violates USDA regulations. If it’s so safe as a coating, why did regulators have to approve it as a fungicide instead of a coating for organic foods?

The Circle of Life…or if I wanted to be more controversial: ‘MEAT; it’s in your bread’. Today we are spreading CalPhos - a fertiliser product with phosphate and calcium, as our soils are very low phosphate. It’s a great, organic fertiliser. And it’s derived from meat processing. In butchers and meat processors, anything that can’t be used, sold, or exported (like chicken feet!) has to be incinerated. The resulting grey dust is ‘CalPhos’ which will support our arable crops for the next 2-3 years. We spread it ahead of our milling wheats which will be sown in the autumn as they have a high demand. Nature is a carbon cycle of life, death, and seasons of thriving and just surviving. As a ‘largely’ arable farmer I rely on other sectors in a big way. • if my wheat doesn’t make human consumption grade it can go for chicken or pig feed rather than being wasted. • I could sell wheat to produce biofuels (although the remaining bioethanol plant has just closed with just as big an impact as the steel furnace except UK Prime Minister didn’t want to save that one (massively affecting wheat prices and farm profitability here in the UK). • I exchange straw with neighbouring beef farmers for the manure that comes from their cattle yards providing the best natural fertiliser you can get. • when the price of wheat is poor, I can grow other crops such as barley, beans, rapeseed, oats, or grass to keep the farm profitable So you see how we need each other in farming? We are one sector, one industry, and we also steward 71% of the UK’s land area! I know this isn’t sexy news… but this is actually pretty huge.. 🚨 Secretary Brooke Rollins just gave a China the Middle Finger and announced three quick historic actions to RESTART and expand U.S. fertilizer manufacturing in the United States 1. Fast-track the giant Blue Point ammonia plant in Louisiana ($3.7 billion project – expected to be the world’s largest). 2. Fix the slow-moving fertilizer expansion program from the previous administration (only 8 of 121 projects finished) and push forward new ones, like a big hydrogen-ammonia facility in Washington state and an organic fertilizer plant in Iowa. 3. Add a dedicated economist to track fertilizer prices and supply for better transparency. These steps are expected to add about 4.5 million tons of domestic fertilizer production per year and create thousands of new jobs. 🔻 Why This Is so Critical The U.S. currently imports a significant portion of its fertilizer needs. Global price spikes and supply disruptions can add thousands of dollars per acre in costs for farmers, which eventually hits consumers at the grocery store. The Hidden Danger: Foreign Control (Especially China) China is the world’s biggest fertilizer producer. They control HUGE shares of key types like phosphate and nitrogen. When it suits them, China restricts exports, adds taxes, or bans shipments. These questions are about Infanrix Hexa and SIDS and are based on information contained in Freedom of Information documents 3828 (document 9) and 1345 (document 1). Constituents are raising this issue with me. There is a lot happening in that single jab. All of these chemicals are given to six-week-old babies, again a month later and then again as a booster, in many cases. There are 17 reported deaths on the DAEN (Database of Adverse Event Notifications) from this product and another 26 reported deaths on your internal Adverse Event Management System (AEMS) going back to 2010. The report from 2010 is that the child died on the same day as the injection, with no other suspected medications or health issues. The child was injected and he died. Why is that death still on the AEMS and not on the public DAEN after 14 years? Once again, the public servant feigned not understanding the question before deflecting and failing to answer, offering instead to take the question on notice. The reason our vaccines are considered safe and effective is because cases where they were not safe are covered up, as is happening here. There is no reason for the specific case I am asking about to still be withheld from the public. The facts of the matter were clear in 2010 and they are clear now: the vaccine is full of harmful substances and killed that child.
