Facial Reconstruction of a 4,500-year-old proto-Aryan from Chuvashia The individual belonged to the Proto-Indo-Iranian Fatyanovo-Balanovo culture. Morphologically, he represented a rare type found within this cultural group, characterized by distinctive facial skeletal features that have been described as “pseudo–sub-Saharan.” This form may represent a mixed population belonging to a separate anthropological variant. Similar traits have also been observed in the same region earlier (in the Neolithic Comb Ceramic/EHG type) and later (in skulls of the Abashevo culture, as well as among some modern Chuvash and Mordvin populations). This is one of the largest and most massive skulls in the Balanovo series. It is long-headed (cranial index 67.31), with a high, arched vault, broad forehead, projecting occiput, and small mastoid processes. The face is relatively small but appears massive, with slight prognathism, small eye orbits, a broad and low nose, and a strong subnasal spine. The maxilla is strongly forward-projecting, with deep canine fossae and prominent teeth. The mandible is large and massive, with a chin directed downward due to the obtuse jaw angle. The overall shape of the face, with its prognathism, flattened and broad nose, and a receding, almost “negative” chin, cannot, taken together, be attributed to a European, although individually both prognathism and a flat nose could occur as individual variations among Europeans. The described skull shows traits of two anthropological types. It is a hybrid. In it are combined features of the Mediterranean European with traits of the anthropological type we previously noted in the Neolithic population of the Balahna lowland (Comb Ceramic EHG), which displays pseudo-sub-saharan characteristics. This anthropological type might perhaps be termed equatorial or Dravidian-like. The graphic reconstruction makes it especially clear what the external appearance of this ancient hybrid may have been, which we define as Balanovo type B. (Mikhail Gerasimov, 1955)

Our first test flight is just the beginning! Behind the scenes, we are focused on up-scaling and improving our technology. We are excited to announce that we have successfully tested the central subsystem of our Helix 2.0 oxygen-rich staged-combustion engine: the powerpack. We have performed two successful hot-fire tests in which we have shown steady-state operation and cavitation limits. The powerpack incorporates the turbopump and pre-burner(s). It is the most complex as well as the most mechanically and thermally stressed subsystem of a staged-combustion engine. This milestone validated key technological challenges, such as the simultaneous ignition of multiple pre-burners and turbopump cavitation performance. The results are in-line with the predictions from our design models. The closed-cycle architecture of Helix allows us to push the performance envelope further: Helix 2.0 is designed to deliver double the thrust (200kN), while mass, production technology and costs remain comparable to Helix 1.0. The result for our customers: more payload for a lower budget! Excited about this news? Check out our career portal for employment opportunities and help us to elevate our Helix staged-combustion engine technology to the next level! ➡️

⭕ Pakistan Unveils Advanced Canister Launched Abdali Missile with Extended 450km Range In a major leap forward for its tactical missile capability, Pakistan has successfully test-fired an advanced canister-based version of its Abdali short-range ballistic missile, now boasting an extended range of 450 kilometers. The new missile marks a significant evolution from its predecessor, offering enhanced mobility, survivability, and strike precision. The earlier Abdali system had a maximum range of 180 km and was mounted on a Soviet-era MAZ-587 chassis using a rail-type launch system. This older setup required longer launch preparations and was less adaptable to rapid response scenarios. In stark contrast, the upgraded Abdali missile is launched from a modern Chinese origin Taian truck and stored in a sealed canister—reflecting a contemporary shift toward quicker, more secure, and more mobile missile deployments. 🔹Key Upgrades Over Previous Version: 🔹Extended Range: The new Abdali can strike targets up to 450 km away—more than doubling the reach of the earlier model. 🔹Canister Based Launch System: Offers faster reaction time, all-weather capability, and improved safety during storage and handling. 🔹High Mobility Platform: The Taian launcher ensures better on-road and off-road performance, enabling rapid repositioning and increased survivability. 🔹Improved Accuracy and Reliability: While classified, the missile is believed to incorporate upgraded guidance systems for more precise targeting. This successful test underscores Pakistan’s continued efforts to modernize its strategic forces, signaling enhanced battlefield flexibility and deterrent capability in an evolving regional security landscape.

I think that fast strides are the most powerful training stimulus for runners. For a glimpse at the physiology, I want to talk about my all-time favorite study. If we were playing FMK, I’d F this study, M this study, and K any study that is not this study. Published in 2018 in Physiological Reports, it had 20 trained athletes (14 men and 6 women) complete a 40-day intervention with 10 sessions involving 5-10 x 30 seconds with 3.5 minutes recovery, in conjunction with a 36% reduction in weekly volume. Before and after the intervention, participants did a time-to-exhaustion test, two 10km tests (one with glycogen depletion) preceded by 2 x 6 minute intervals at 60% of VO2 max, and a series of muscle biopsy and blood tests. Running economy during the 10k improved by 2.1% and during the intervals at 60% of VO2 max by 1.7%. In other words, the athletes improved at both hard efforts and easy ones. Meanwhile, there was no running economy change in the glycogen-depletion 10k, leading the authors to theorize that improvements were primarily related to changes in slow-twitch muscle fibers. Expression of protein dystrophin increased, which may enhance the ST-fiber structural integrity via the actin-myosin cross-bridge, improving running economy. In addition, the expression of UCP3 decreased, which may improve mitochondrial efficiency. In fast-twitch fibers, expression of the muscle protein SERCA1 decreased by 22%, which could reduce the energy turnover during exercise. Enzymatic activity and testosterone:cortisol ratio also went up. Don’t be discouraged, I only kinda know what a few of those words mean. The point is that as researchers introduce stride-like speed sessions and measure more variables, they often see major changes that may explain why Olympians are always doing strides. So when we use the term “running economy,” we’re actually incorporating dozens of these physiological variables, some of which we can measure and some of which we can’t, from the cells to the muscles to the circulatory and cardiovascular systems. Put it together, and getting faster is a wonderfully complex algorithm. Strides are one way to help solve it 💪

The telephoto system on the vivo X300 Ultra is a bit insane. This generation brings upgrades not only in sensor specifications, but also in stabilization and subject tracking, pushing smartphone telephoto photography closer to the level of professional cameras. 1. Upgraded 200MP “Thanos Telephoto” system The X300 Ultra uses a Blueprint × Samsung HP0 200-megapixel telephoto sensor, representing the fifth generation of the Zeiss-branded “Thanos telephoto.” Building on the previous HPE solution, vivo further refined the sensor through deep customization, improving color rendering, autofocus, HDR performance, and power efficiency, allowing this 200MP telephoto to deliver stronger overall imaging performance. 2. Gimbal-level stabilization and 60fps tracking capture The X300 Ultra introduces around 3° optical stabilization on its telephoto lens, a massive jump compared with the 0.7°–1° typically seen in telephoto OIS systems and even beyond the 1.2° on the X200 Ultra. This enables CIPA 7.0-level professional stabilization. The stronger stabilization significantly improves handheld shooting at long focal lengths, including 200mm, 400mm, and beyond. In addition, the device features a Blueprint high-refresh tracking engine that supports 60fps motion capture, doubling the industry’s common 30fps capability and allowing telephoto cameras not only to capture static subjects, but also to reliably track fast-moving targets.

I joined Coinbase 🛡️ 9 weeks ago with a vital goal: fixing unnecessary account restrictions. If you're on CT, you know how significant this issue has been for users. I myself am a Coinbase user and our restriction experience is not meeting my own bar. The goal is clear: Account freezes should be rare, limited to situations that warrant them, primarily when we're legally obligated (e.g. sanctions or court orders) or protecting users (e.g. from scams or account compromises). We're committed to getting this right. Recent releases have enabled us to make huge improvements without sacrificing our legal and regulatory obligations, or our commitment to safety. In short: - We've reduced the frequency of account locks by ~82% so far, and new changes are currently rolling out that will bring further reductions. - We've made significant investments in our ML models, infrastructure, modeling, and teams. So far, we've improved the precision and recall of all our models, and are seeing fewer restrictions/freezes as a result. - We've established guardrails and checks/balances to ensure we maintain focus on this and won't stop iterating. - We're also tackling this problem from the other end by moving processes like source-of-funds verification and enhanced KYC into the app. This means most restriction types will have self-service flows to remove restrictions, which is much more efficient than previous options. There’s so much more for us to do to get to a great state, Expect further updates soon!

Facial reconstruction of a Neolithic man from Ukraine In 1949–1950, M. Ya. Rudinsky carried out excavations of a large Neolithic burial ground that he had discovered earlier, known as the Volnish burial ground. Based on the type of burials, the position of the skeletons, the grave goods, and the abundance of red ochre, this burial ground was closely related to the well-known Mariupol cemetery. As in the Mariupol burial ground, the burials here are arranged in dense rows, closely packed next to one another. The majority of the interments are accompanied by rich grave inventories. All skeletons lie on their backs, with the arms tightly pressed to the body and the legs extended. The inventory is represented by a large number of stone and bone tools. In addition, fish and animal bones were often found on and around the skeletons. The skull, densely covered in red ochre, was described by Mikhail Gerasimov as large and massive, with a very great cranial length of 196 mm, a small cranial breadth of 136 mm, and a wide cheek breadth of 142 mm. Mikhail Gerasimov describes the skull as follows: The brow ridges protrude strongly; their projection exceeds that of the glabella. The brow ridges are wide and fused with the upper margins of the orbits. The bases of the zygomatic arches are wide. The zygomatic processes of the temporal bones are massive. The temporal lines are very well developed. The mastoid processes are very large and wide; their surface is flat. The occipital bone is long, very narrow, and laterally compressed in the area of the superior nuchal line. The occipital protuberance is weakly expressed; it is rounded and has a smooth surface. The face is pentagonal in shape, very high, with wide and massive cheekbones and strongly protruding angles of the heavy lower jaw; it is strongly profiled. The nasal bridge is high. The orbits are small. The alveolar part is low and orthognathic. The chin is strongly projecting. The orbits are rectangular, with strongly rounded corners. The orbital margins are thickened. The lower orbital margins are elevated. The eye sockets are closed. The lacrimal fossae are deepened. The supraorbital tubercles are weakly expressed and represented by broad, flat surfaces. The inclination of the palpebral fissure is slight. The frontal orientation of the orbits is elevated. The orbital profile is inclined. The zygomatic bones are massive and very wide. The lower portions of the zygomatic bones are displaced forward and elevated. The zygomatic tubercles are strongly developed. The frontal processes of the zygomatic bones are wide and flat. The canine fossae are weakly expressed. The areas for muscle attachment are well developed. The maxillary notches are deep. The alveolar part is very low (12 mm) and orthognathic. The teeth are wide and short, set orthognathically. The height of the first incisor is 6.5 mm. Wear on the incisors and canines has reached complete cross-section of the tooth. The mandible is large, with strongly developed angles, and is very massive. The body of the mandible is very high. The horizontal rami are weakly flared. The mental protuberance reaches 9 points on the scale. The rami of the mandible are very wide and high and diverge at a right angle. The mandibular angles are rounded and strongly everted, with a pronounced crest. The coronoid processes of the mandible are also everted. In terms of its anthropological characteristics, this represents the same type that is already well known to us from skulls from Murzak-Koba, Sursky Island (Type A), and Vinogradny Island. Since the archaeological material has not yet been published, we are currently deprived of the opportunity to precisely establish the chronological position of this individual. If we assume that this burial ground dates to the same period as the early burials of the Mariupol cemetery, then it belongs to the period of the developed Neolithic stage. This gives us the right to state that the anthropological type of ancient Cro-Magnons was conservatively preserved in remote regions up until the 4th–3rd millennia BC. Apparently, survivals of this same anthropological type can also be traced in the skulls of the Yamnaya culture of this region.

‼️ THEY HAVE BEEN LYING TO YOU ABOUT OIL FOR 150 YEARS. 🛢️ Oil is not rare. It is not made from dead dinosaurs. It is the second most common liquid on Earth after water and it is literally the planet’s lifeblood. The entire “fossil fuel” scam was invented by the Rockefellers and the Smithsonian in the late 1800s to create artificial scarcity and jack up prices to insane levels. They fed you the biotic lie so you would believe oil is some finite dinosaur soup that is about to run dry. Total fabrication. Oil is abiotic. It is a liquid mineral cooked deep in the Earth’s mantle under crushing pressure and scorching heat. It is the natural lubricant for tectonic plates and the grease that keeps the planet’s massive gears turning smoothly. That is why wells drilled dry in the 1970s are filling back up again today. The Earth is pumping fresh oil from below and regenerating it nonstop. It does not run out. We are sucking the lubricant out of the planet’s engine and now the whole machine is starting to shake. More earthquakes. Creaking faults. Grinding plates. Coincidence? No. We are stripping the oil that keeps the Earth’s crust sliding properly and the system is literally seizing up. The so-called “fossil theory” is the greatest economic hack in human history. Real crude oil has almost zero biological markers. No nitrogen, no phosphorus, nothing that would survive if it came from dead organisms. It is pure polymeric hydrocarbons, primordial stuff from the Earth’s own formation. Thomas Gold tried to warn the world. He proved hydrocarbons like methane and oil rise from the deep mantle, not from ancient swamps. The establishment destroyed his reputation because the truth would collapse their entire control grid. If people knew oil is basically tap water for the planet, endlessly generated from below, the entire parasitic geopolitics of wars, sanctions, and price manipulation would evaporate overnight. They do not want you to know the Earth makes its own oil. They need you scared, dependent, and paying through the nose while they bleed the planet dry. Wake up. The dinosaurs had nothing to do with it. This is the biggest lie they ever sold us and it is killing the engine of the world. Stern Drew Capt Kyle

004/100 Buttons. A bit of the process on building an animation. When looking at a finished animation or in this example a finished button, it can look quite complex inside the CSS. But when building it, it’s more like a lot of simple steps, one after another. Here I had the idea to make some kind of text animation like the footer logo on the Osmo site. I try to add the base animation with no complex easing, for example transition: translate 0.4s ease. Starting with just moving the one text from bottom to top and the other text to top. Adding a stagger, play around with it. Searching for a way to make it more circular. On the research I found the sin() function inside CSS which can build a more smooth non linear curve for the stagger which creates this circular effect. And step by step adding more complexity like, different easing for hover/hover-out, opacity, 3D transform and more. I use also the sin() function to rotate the letters, so the middle ones are getting more rotated than the outer ones. Another thing which helps is to add a small delay on hover, for example 0.05s or 0.1s, you don’t really see the difference, but when you hover pretty fast on and out it doesn’t get that jumpy. I’m using here GSAP’s SplitText to split every char into spans. And then I’m adding a CSS index variable to every span, starting from the center. SplitText can provide CSS index variables, but you cannot tell it from which direction. For the sin() it’s also important to have a max length, so I add another CSS variable with the max char number on it. Crafting 100 Buttons with Osmo ⏳ Total time: 63h

Facial reconstruction of a 5,200-year-old Yamnaya man from Volgograd region I. V. Sinitsyn excavated a large kurgan containing 25 burials from different cultures; of these, two belonged to the Yamnaya culture. Burial 22 (the reconstructed individual) was likely the main one. Based on the grave construction, burial rite, and the form and decoration of a vessel, Sinitsyn considered burial 22 to be the earliest not only in this kurgan but in the local Yamnaya culture. In burial 22, a skeleton lay on its back in an oval pit with strongly bent legs. Near the head stood a clay vessel decorated with complex patterns of wavy and dotted bands. The skeleton was heavily covered with red ochre. The skull from this burial belonged to a male no older than 18–20 years. Despite its considerable absolute size, it does not give an impression of massiveness; the facial skeleton is distinctly gracile. The skull is dolichocranial (index 73.4), elongated (188 mm), relatively broad (136 mm), pentagonal in shape from above and roof-shaped when viewed from the occipital side. The cranial vault is high; the forehead is fairly steep and broad (78–79 mm). The glabella protrudes slightly (3 points), the brow ridges are weakly developed (1 point), and their projection is minimal. The occiput is sloping, the external occipital protuberance is weakly developed, and the mastoid processes are short and rather massive, though their relief is weak. The total facial height is medium (114 mm), the upper facial height is small (67 mm), and the face is not wide (128 mm). The orbits are relatively large. The face could be described as somewhat prognathic; nevertheless, the entire facial region - the nose, upper jaw, and lower jaw - protrudes fairly strongly forward beyond the glabella line. The nose has a clearly defined convex bridge, of medium size (width 24.7 mm). The alveolar part of the upper jaw is short; the teeth are orthognathic, the bite is pincer-like. The enamel height of the first incisor is 7.5 mm. The anthropological diagnosis of this skull presents no difficulty. It is a typical Europoid skull. It shows no archaic traits of early Homo sapiens. Nor does it resemble the ancient Neolithic types from the rapids region of the Dnieper. It is noticeably more refined, smaller, and more gracile. It also bears no resemblance to the European skulls from Oleniy Ostrov or the Ladoga region. This individual, of Europoid type, is very close to the modern Mediterranean type. (Gerasimov 1955)
