You can do the same with Digital media, you can sell, trade, own barrow, this isn't just exclusive for physical media, GoG has been doing this for decades, you don't need to have a box to have full ownership of your games, I think you Video game box holders don't understand Digital media.

You can't do that on Console.

Its happened to me on X360, Wii, WiiU, PS3, etc. Where i have lost digital content i spent money on.

Disc rot can happen in disc's but namely if they aren't in temperature controlled rooms. Like storage units

@BATTLE_ATHLETE Between these 2 SSD‘s I have over 5350 movies TV show shows full seasons I pay for no streaming services at all and these two drives have treated properly will last me for 80 years I split him up between two drives so they stay healthy and they have room for where leveling.
