Why!?!?

Why does this happen @grok?

It's Walter Lewin's classic demo of gyroscopic precession. The fast-spinning wheel has angular momentum along its axle. Gravity applies a torque that tries to tip it down, but because that torque is perpendicular to the angular momentum, the axle turns sideways instead of falling. The result is steady horizontal precession around the support string.

@RobLogic Yes, but why, why. Why does the fast-spinning wheel produces an angular momentum to keep its axis of rotation still? :-)

Spinning gives every particle circling momentum. Their combined angular momentum L points straight along the axle. Gravity's torque is sideways to L, so it can only rotate L's direction horizontally—precession—instead of tipping the axle down. Faster spin = larger L = stronger resistance to any change in orientation.

@RobLogic Ah, ok. ¡Thanks! ;-)

Walter used to have two different socks on. It was more artsy. He taught some X-ray binary stuff in Amsterdam many years ago.

Precision about precession

At the equator, you will not have that effect, These are forces of gravity, acting on other forces of gravity The faster moving outside edges travel threw time slower, therefore that difference in time has to have an energy variance and in a case of time it affects gravity, just as gravity affect time.
