Protocol upgrades are where networks prove their ability to scale. Pi Network moving toward its final technical milestones shows a focus on infrastructure reliability and ecosystem readiness. The success of these upgrades will depend on execution, adoption, and whether the network can translate technical progress into real utility.

One Week till the Pi Network's Protocol Version 27 Upgrade Pi Network’s (Pi Network) Protocol 27 upgrade has been targeted for 15 September 2026. This means, the highly-anticipated development is set to launch seven days from today. Protocol v27 is referred to as the last one in the current line of upgrades and features enhanced smart contract authentication. It provides the accounts and applications with more sophisticated means for transaction authorization and extends the smart contract capabilities of the network. The new protocol will help develop infrastructure and ecosystem, requiring node operators to upgrade to version 27.1 before the deadline in order to stay connected to Mainnet. Worth noting that there is no need for users and miners to perform any actions. Pioneers will be observing whether these protocol updates will help the network implement its future utilities.

🚨PI NETWORK MAY SUPPORT NATIVE TOKENS AND MEMECOINS SOON Pi Network Network released the Pi Launchpad MVP on Testnet as part of its Pi Day 2026 anniversary rollout. This introduces a product-first token launch mechanism where $Pi proceeds flow directly into liquidity pools rather than to issuing projects. Pi Launchpad is the primary means to get quality ecosystem tokens on Mainnet. Protocol 20, the technical foundation enabling smart contract capabilities, has been deployed across all major nodes, and the Mainnet upgrade is complete this week. Soon, Pioneers may start trading tokens and memecoins on the Pi Blockchain.

PI NETWORK HITS 421K ACTIVE NODES AHEAD OF PROTOCOL 23 Pi Network now reports 421,000 active mainnet nodes and over 10 billion $PI migrated to mainnet, the largest validator footprint of any major L1. Protocol 23, which activates full smart contract functionality, has been moved up one week to May 11. Roughly 3M $PI has flowed onto centralized exchanges in recent weeks as holders position around the upgrade. For a network that spent years dismissed as a "fake mining app," the on-chain numbers are starting to look serious.

Pi Network's final Protocol 23 upgrade lands Monday with smart contracts in tow Pi Network confirmed Protocol 23 activates May 18, flipping Pi from a basic mainnet into a programmable L1 with native smart contracts and dApps. The node deadline was pushed from May 15 to May 19 to keep validators synced, while Pi App Studio now converts AI-generated apps from Claude Code and Codex into Pi-native apps in minutes. Editor's take: This is potentially the biggest update of the year for crypto.

$PI is upgrading to Protocol 28. If it sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Pi is built on Stellar. Pi Network’s just upgraded its testnet to Protocol 28. If you follow my stuff, these features might sound familiar. There’s a good reason for that, and it’s worth knowing. So what does it do? It improves how the network handles delays in transaction data, it lets developers upgrade whole groups of smart contracts at once, and it lets them change stored data more safely as their apps evolve. If you saw my Stellar video, that’s the exact same upgrade Stellar just did. That’s not a coincidence. $PI is actually built on Stellar’s technology. So when $XLM ships a protocol upgrade, Pi inherits the same one. That’s why they line up. As for the timing, node operators need to upgrade by October 13th, and Pi’s planning to bring it to the mainnet on October 16th. Nothing dramatic. Just Pi keeping pace with the tech it’s built on.

Pi Network sits on 540M tokens on exchanges as Protocol 23 deadline closes in Nearly 540 million $PI now sits on centralized exchanges, the largest exchange-held supply since the open mainnet launch, signaling real selling pressure heading into Monday's Protocol 23 activation. Pi Network is unlocking over 200M tokens worth more than $36M this month alone, with another 1.65B coming over the next 12 months. Pi has the utility catalyst it needed. The supply side just needs to not break it.

Most Web3 apps have a "bot" problem. Pi Network has the solution. 🛡️ At #Consensus2026, Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis explains how the Pi KYC Authority is evolving into a privacy-first identity layer for 3rd-party developers. By using Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs), external apps can verify a user's attributes (like age or location) via Pi without ever touching their private data. Pi isn't just verifying Pioneers; it’s building the infrastructure to verify the entire internet. 🌐 With the Protocol 23 upgrade building the foundation for more mainnet ecosystem features, Pi is positioned to be the "Sign-in with Apple" of Web3—but with real human validation and zero data-doxing. The era of the "Identity Utility" is here. 🚀 #PiNetwork #Web3 Pi Network Nicolas Kokkalis

Pi Network Open Mainnet Launch and Utility Application Partnerships We discuss the launch of the Pi Network Open Mainnet, which is a major news for Pi Network miners. The Open Mainnet will increase access to on-chain transactions, allow external exchanges to integrate, and enable the integration of third-party web 2 and web 3 applications that use the Pi Network token as the only currency. Two major utility applications, Pi Pilots and Pi2Go, are teaming up to provide logistics, delivery, travel, and social commerce services using Pi as the payment method. These utility applications are a key reason why many Pi Network users don't want to exchange their Pi on exchanges, as they can already use their Pi for various services. #PiNetwork #OpenMainnet #Cryptocurrency #WebApplications #WebThreeApplications #UtilityServices #PiPilots #Pi2Go

Pi Network could launch its own stablecoin? GCV ambassador Dimas (Dimas Nawawi), mentioned that PiPay is an evolving global payment system meant to accommodate a Pi stablecoin. PiPay aims to serve as a global payment platform and has been in the works by Mr. Kosasih (kosasih). According to Dimas, Kosasih has been responsible for previous programming efforts, including OnRamp Pi and Pi Oracle. However, official Pi Network (Pi Network) developments revolve around Open Network utility, merchant payments, and the Protocol 27 launch in September 2026 that brings smart contracts and decentralized exchange. Services by third parties, such as OpenPay, can facilitate conversion of PI into stablecoins like OUSD for payments and QR payments. However, the Pi Core Team has never recognized the existence of any stablecoin. Any stablecoin would require the support of the Core Team, regulation, and actual demand for it. Nevertheless, community developments in coding and payments suggest sustained interest in the idea of Pi becoming more functional.
