30 years ago, Sierra published EarthSiege 2, a mech combat sim. Originally developed by Dynamix, for which Sierra acted as a publisher many times, it puts you in control of massive bipedal war machines called HERCs (Humaniform-Emulation Roboticized Combat units). It’s single-player campaign-focused, with video briefings and squadmate digitized voice commands. Sadly, it didn't come with a multiplayer option, which would have made it infinitely more awesome. What remains is still a great game, but it almost felt a bit unfinishedm since multiplayer/LAN gaming was certainly not rare anymore in 1996.

🇺🇸 Fighter pilots have their own version of a white flag, and it's not what you'd expect. Dropping your landing gear mid-dogfight is the unofficial signal for surrender between fighter pilots. An unwritten code respected at 30,000 feet. During Vietnam in 1972, a MiG-17 pilot got locked onto by F-8 Crusader pilot Lieutenant Tucker and ejected mid-combat rather than fight it out. That wasn't a loss. Under international law, ejecting from a combat aircraft is a legally recognized act of surrender, and targeting a pilot after that point is a war crime. Ok, Armored Trains are cool. I just learned that "Rail Warfare" is a thing and dominated by the Soviets in World War II with over 60 “fortresses on wheels” ready when Germany invaded in 1941, each with T-34 tank turrets, 100mm guns, heavy mortars, and anti-aircraft batteries.👀
