I may be wrong but isn’t sinkers more of a sinking changeup in Japan while they call them 2-seam or shūto? The only ground I have for this is the sinker that Kawasaki throw in the manga Ace of Diamond that he grips like a type of Vulcan change or something along those lines.

I went back and looked at Roki Sasaki’s preseason start from 3/19/22, almost exactly two years ago. He was touching 100 mph that start and allowed a grand slam to Kazuma Okamoto on a 99 mph pitch, so his velo is definitely behind this year.
