The Chinese Drone Carrier: Not Just Power Projection, But a New Era in Naval Warfare The Type 076 is a Chinese Navy amphibious assault ship with a full-load displacement exceeding 40,000 tons. It combines traditional amphibious warfare features with advanced drone operations, making it the world's first to be equipped with an electromagnetic catapult (EMALS) and arresting cables for launching and recovering fixed-wing aircraft, primarily unmanned reconnaissance and combat vehicles. CNS Sichuan, China's largest and most advanced amphibious assault ship, set sail from Shanghai on its maiden sea trial on Friday, according to the People's Liberation Army Navy. A close flyover of China's Liberation Barges. They can be used by the PLA to offload mechanized and armored brigades after the PLA Marines have secured a beachhead. Transport ships can dock with any of the 2 barges farthest away from the shore. More barges can be added if the seabed condition demands it. ⚓This is basically a man-made mobile port⚓ As for defending it from drones and missiles; The Liberation Barges will only arrive on the battlefield, after the PLA marines have secured a large enough landing zone and pushed far enough in land. CIWS, lasers, and microwave air defense systems will be placed on the beach for protection. PLA air force will have constant overwatch in the air, destroying any potential enemy missile and large drone launchers. Small FPV drones will either not have the range, since the PLA marines have pushed sufficiently inland, or not powerful enough to damage the very heavy duty ramps. CNS Sichuan, Type-076 amphibious assault carrier. The double island design is a necessity due to the usage of gas turbines for propulsion. Air intakes and exhausts can't be too long or too close to each other, which will affect the gas turbines' efficiency. It is a technical masterclass for Chinese naval engineers to install the electromagnetic catapult onto a ship of 50,000 tons. In a pinch, they can have a full compliment of carrier airwings. Some claim the ship will only operate drones, that is not entirely correct, the navy is not spending big money on a full length catapult just to launch drones. Our marines on foreign shores need local air superiority provided by J-35s, so there will certainly be some J-35s on regular deployment. Ultimately, this ship represents China's global commitment to peace. The CNS Sichuan will serve as the center of an expeditionary fleet responsible for rapid deployment to hotspots around the world. Raw footage of China's Liaoning carrier battlegroup conducting operations in the Western Pacific. Some important observations: 🔹Japan tried to follow the carrier battlegroup, but was comprehensively outmaneuvered, japanese systems jammed and lost track of the carrier battlegroup for over 20 days. 🔹The wheel chocks (Red flaps that stops the wheel of the aircraft before taking off) was widened, resulting in a narrower gap, allowing the J-35 to be operated from the 2 STOBAR carriers. 🔹Type-054B frigate took its first far seas operation. 🔹Air force-Navy interoperability, PLA air force YY-20 air refueling tanker, was seen operating within the navy system, extending the range of the J-15T. 🔹J-15T (the catapult launched version) makes their debut on the Liaoning officially. 🚨NAVY LOGISTICS 🚨 Everyone seems concerned that the U.S. Navy ships in the Arabian Sea - carrier Abraham Lincoln stike group, 3-ship amphibious group based on Tripoli, and a surface action group centered on approximately 8 destroyers - are running low on food, with some pictures showing the supposed meals on board. To understand how the Navy supplies ships you have to understand how U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command, the fleet of civilian merchant mariner crewed ships work. There are three main considerations - fuel, food, and ammo. 1️⃣Fuel: There are two MSC oilers in the Indian Ocean. They provide alongside Underway Replenishment (UNREP) for diesel fuel for ship population and JP5 for aviation. The oilers can carry between 180 to 150k barrels of fuel. A Burke can carry about 12k bbls of fuel. When the oilers run low on fuel, they will either return to a forward base or meet up with commercial tankers from the US merchant marine, some in the Tanker Security Program. These tankers are equipped to receive rigs from the MSC oilers so that they can transfer fuel to the oilers. The oilers can maintain their forward presence as station oilers while the commercial tankers shuttle fuel. 2️⃣Food & Ammo: There are three MSC dry cargo/ammo ships in the region. To keep the ships supplied one of the T-AKEs will rotate through the ships providing either replenishment at sea or vertical replenishment via civilian embarked AS-332 helos. Another ship would be rotating out a forward base to reload and tag team with the station AKE. The third AKE, along with civilian commercial ships, many of the Maritime Security Program, would shuttle forward supplies from commercial ports or Defense Logisitics Agency depots. 3️⃣ The addition of the Bush Carrier Strike Group will allow the Lincoln to pull back for down time and resupply at a base. Bush has a fast combat support ship (T-AOE) that can carry a mix of food, fuel and ammo on a ship capable of 26 knots. This ship is a one-stop shop for a carrier strike group. The arrival of the Boxer amphibious group will also provide a relief for Tripoli or operate in SE Asia to intercept, divert or board Iranian ships. Now, does this mean every ship on the blockade is supplied to full capacity...probably not. But before everyone leaps to conclusions that sailors are not being provisioned, understand that the US Navy and U.S. Central Command has done this for a long time. At the same time, this logistic system can be more robust and represents a point of vulnerability for operations. MSC has experienced issues with crewing and availability of vessels.
