I played every platformer, SMW is the best (2D) Mostly other Marios are the same level but SMW has the best controls/most skill expression. You can hardly even do this curve in new ones as they have stiff SMB physics Also the best map and atmosphere, and new Marios are too easy

Mario 3 is better IMO. Smw was fantastic, and did some things better But Mario 3, overall, was a revelation

Absolutely I did, I tried going back on the Game Boy advance but I found it very difficult.

Its direct sequel was a better game.

For me the pinnacle of platformers is Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest, Mega Man 6, Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, & Super Mario World. I can't quite decide honestly, but I'm kinda leaning towards DKC2.

"Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World" is better than just Super Mario World. It includes five games, not just four like in the original SMA-S. Even if you think a compilation doesn't count, this version of SMW is better than the original because Luigi has his own sprites.

There are other 2D platformers I have enjoyed, even loved, maybe even preferred at times. But objectively, this is a masterpiece and a blueprint that has never been equalled or bettered.

2d probably not (can’t name a better one), super meat boy was pretty decent in its own quirky way. DKC trilogy is incredible but This is the 2d goat for sure. 3d probably Galaxy or Odyessy 😍🙌🏻

Hollow Knight

I was so sick of 2d mascot platformers shortly after it, but I did like yoshi's island or whatever it was called more, the one with baby mario.

I think donkey Kong Country managed to outdo Mario but this was peak. It only Nintendo was able to do a true 2D Mario sequel and work on Mario 64 at the same time…

No doubt World is a 10/10 masterpiece! But I have to say it's even topped by Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong-Quest, which is an 11/10!

loved this game... also loved mario bros 3 & donkey kong country... but super mario world will always be my favorite... the levels... the music... the secret exits/pathways.... 10/10

hard to say exactly, but you have Super Metroid, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Yoshi Island, Rondo of Blood, Donkey Kong Country 2. So I would say 1993-1996 is more the sweet spot.
