Michael Powell on how the iconic climax in "Black Narcissus" (1947) was filmed: "In 'Black Narcissus' (1947), I started out almost as a documentary director and ended up as a producer of opera, even though the excerpt from the opera was only about twelve minutes long. Over time, that has been whittled down to the point where only about 20% of America's “local” broadcast outlets are truly locally owned. What Chairman Carr announced was an initiative to change the rules to: 1.Allow a handful of broadcasters to have greater national reach that process, give them greater control locally. Let me give you a quick example. There is a merger that has already been agreed to — between Nexstar Media, the largest chain of broadcast outlets in the nation, and another chain by the name of Tegna. This merger is, per se, illegal today because it violates existing FCC rules on both national reach and local ownership. Yet the deal has been agreed to — and is now only awaiting the FCC to change the rules to make it legal. Brendan Carr has indicated an intention to do just that. And how do you make it legal? Well, you cut back on the diversity of voices. You cut back on the diversity of ownership. And you give it to corporations that have self-identified as being Trump-friendly.

This is probably the most complex workflow I’ve ever built, only with open-source tools. It took my 4 days. It takes four inputs: author, title, and style; and generates a full visual animated story in one click in ComfyUI . I worked on it for four days. There are still some bugs, but here’s the first preview. Here’s a quick breakdown: - The four inputs are sent to LLMs with precise instructions to generate: first, prompts for images and image modifications; second, prompts for animations; third, prompts for generating music. - All voices are generated from the text and timed precisely, as they determine the length of each animation segment. - The first image and video are generated to serve as the title, but also as the guide for all other images created for the video. - Titles and subtitles are also added automatically in Comfy. - I also developed a lot of custom nodes for minor frame calculations, mostly to match audio and video. - The full system is a large loop that, for each line of text, generates an image and then a video from that image. The loop was the hardest part to build in this workflow, so it can process either a 20-second video or a 2-minute video with the same input. - There are multiple combinations of LLMs that try to understand the text in the best way to provide the best prompts for images and video. - The final video is assembled entirely within ComfyUI. - The music is generated based on the LLM output and matches the exact timing of the full animation. - Done! For reference, this workflow uses a lot of models and only works on an RTX 6000 Pro with plenty of RAM. My goal is not to replace humans, as I’ll try to explain later, this workflow is highly controlled and can be adapted or reworked at any point by real artists! My aim was to create a tool that can animate text in one go, allowing the AI some freedom while keeping a strict flow. I don’t know yet how I’ll share this workflow with people, I still need to polish it properly, but maybe through Patreon. The ever convening of its kind. Over three days, 140 women, including those from Afghanistan, came together to address critical issues affecting our homeland. The diversity of voices created a space for meaningful, intense discussions on Afghanistan's complex social and political landscape. Though there were challenges and moments of disagreement, the beauty of the summit lay in our ability to embrace differences. This is my first and last time commenting on the Oliver Mtukudzi saga. I knew Tuku for decades, from his days at Radio and Tape Promotions in the early 1990s when I was in journalism school. He was a normal human being like all of us, a musical genius, but like all human beings, he had his flaws, nobody doesn’t. We all agree that he gave so much to this country’s well-being, and for that, he deserves our respect. All of us have made mistakes in our private lives that we wish we hadn’t made, nobody is perfect. Every documentary film I ever made had a Tuku soundtrack. He did that for me at no cost. The only documentary film I made without Oliver’s soundtrack was A Violent Response; the soundtrack was laid by his son, Sam. Again, Sam refused to take money from me. They were good people, but like all of us, Tuku had his flaws. I think enough has been said about this great musician’s private and family life. Let us respect him and now move on from his private life. I respectfully hope that his family can resolve their issues privately too and not make a spectacle of it, as it is tarnishing his memory. We all have family issues, but we resolve them away from the public gaze. There is so much that Tuku told me about people in politics, the music industry, and business, but it would be disrespectful to share that. I wish others would feel the same way and let the legend rest in peace. Nothing Tuku did can be undone, we can only learn from such lessons. Let the old man rest, please! His children and wife have a right to talk about their experiences with their father and husband, respectively, but let us help them heal by not fuelling the rift. They are hurting. What they need are voices that help them become a happy family, not voices of polarity. We can be compassionate without inciting them, there is nothing that has been said that he didn’t address in his music. Let us not find joy in sharing this family’s pain and misery. Let us pray for them to heal their painful rift and bridge the gap. He was in my first-ever documentary film, Pain in my Heart, talking about how HIV and AIDS affected him when his band members were dying, including his brother Robert. That film won the African Journalist of the Year Award in 2007. I took the trophy to Pakare Paye for him to see it, he was super happy for me. Ndapota hangu, chisiyayi Samanyanga vazorore murugare. Below are two performances I recorded of Tuku at his base at Pakare Paye a few months before he died, and of his son Sam Mtukudzi in 2007. In the interest of full transparency, I am releasing a voice message that Kyle Seraphin sent to a mutual friend on March 30, 2025. In it, Kyle admits to getting me blacklisted from the Shawn Ryan Show by lying to the producer about my credibility and outright denying the legitimacy and seriousness of the 764 network (now a major international news story). Kyle then proceeds to state his intention to harm me by getting my professional licenses revoked, and creepily states that he lives near me and that I should be careful because he “plays in real life only”, which I can only construe as a threat. He tells a bunch of random lies, like saying I got banned from YouTube for doxing people, that other journalists have debunked my work to him, etc. Kyle also doubles down on the claim that I doxed him, an allegation that I had immediately proven to him was untrue. This man is a liar, he has no integrity, he is emotionally unstable, and he seems to enjoy threatening women on the internet, all while running cover for REAL and SERIOUS online child predator networks. In their efforts to attack me, Kyle and his internet tough guy friend Joe Oltmann have knowingly and recklessly traded personal information they believe to be mine with the same criminal pedophiles who have victimized me and my family for over a year. They are willfully placing our lives in danger! The FBI agents I’ve dealt with during my ordeal with 764 are kind and care deeply about arresting predators and saving kids. Kyle is the complete opposite type of person that I want to see working for the FBI.
