This is where the "Squall is Dead" theory originated. Personally, I don't support it because it basically makes the rest of the game irrelevant. Some say it got crazier after Disc 1 too. I mean, it's called Final FANTASY. Anyway, believe what you want. It's just not for me.

Ending disc 1 on that scene was such a cruel cliffhanger. You had to swap discs just to find out what happened.

So, as you've posted the big spoiler here, did you think Squall actually dies at this point and the rest of the game is his afterlife? I mean, the weird stuff like aliens in the GARDEN basement, time shenanigans, ancient sorceresses, and Moombas don't appear until after this!

But in our first playthrough (me and my older brother) our disc 2 was broken, so we didn't manage to know how the story would have continued until, like, one year later when we found a good copy and the music of Ellone and Laguna started playing ❤️

I really do love the hypothesis that Squall died here and the rest of the game is his dream.

I love how iconic the feeling of disc changing was. I remember my heart was RACING when I saw this for the first time. Could hear my own heart beating trying to be composed enough to put the new disc in.

This was such a cliffhanger! And the anti climatic resolution of instantly everything was fine was really confusing to me as a youth 🤣

the jaw drop of seeing the “insert disc 2 screen” as a kid was insane, the feeling of accomplishment was a rush of dopamine

My disc used to skip right before this fight and freeze, had to buy a second copy of the game

Fun Fact: Disc changes are purely for FMVs, as they take up quite a bit of data on the discs. All 3 disks contain the full game. You can swap out disks and the game still plays just fine, it will just end up loading the wrong FMV or freeze.1/2

Im like right there but i dont like this game and just cant keep playing. Irvine irritates me.

I didn't like Irvine much myself back then, though I've grown to like him more now. Anyway, just play something you enjoy.

This game could use a remake like FFVII got, the story is decent the gameplay needs some ironing out, it lacked the direction it needed because they were splitting the staff up between the Spirits Within movie and this game. Also the cinematics were pushing the cutting edge.
