While Buhari’s administration struggled economically, Tinubu is now trying to put Nigeria on a more stable and structured economic path. In the past year alone, over 30 students of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) have tragically lost their lives after being run over by trucks. Today, yet again, another horrific incident has occurred—around 12 more students have been killed in a senseless and preventable accident. Grief-stricken and outraged, students took to the streets to protest the continued loss of their colleagues, only to be met with tear gas instead of solutions. How many more lives must be lost before action is taken? As an immediate measure trucks should be banned from using that portion of the Abuja-Lokoja road during the day to prevent further tragedies. Long-term solutions, such as alternative routes, pedestrian bridges, and stricter traffic regulations, must also be put in place. This is not just a statistic—it’s the heartbreaking loss of young, bright minds with dreams and aspirations. The authorities to act now before more families are shattered by these avoidable deaths.
