Please tell me your thoughts on Rory McIlroy

He's criminally underappreciated. Rory is the face of golf for Millennials who are too young to fully grasp Tiger’s run. For most of the reasons you mentioned, I also think he's one of the most important golfers in the history of the game. He's definitely the most important in this generation. He got it out of the mud and his dad was out here bar tending to pay for lessons. And then he actually fucking made it. If Rory were American, a lot of the hate wouldn't exist. It’s stupid, but it's the truth. People seem to want him to be “relatable” in a way he isn't and he shouldn't have to be. He's one of the greatest golfers of all time, and folks have to stop getting mad about him carrying himself as such.

@McIlroyRory In a lot of ways, Rory is the LeBron of the PGA in terms of being the first superstar to have to live through the height of the social media magnifying glass. And bc he was always so vulnerable, AND defensive of the pga tour…it built up a lot of haters. Now he’s sick of it.

sure doesn’t hide behind niceties. To say he had to birdie out the last 2 or 3 to shoot 81 @ Oakmont prior to making the cut, was proof. Golf greats come in a few variations, but they are RARE. I think this “what have you done for me lately” attitude is related to sports gambling. We all can remember Rory’s dominant wins. It’d be eye opening to know how ALL IN ppl have gone betting Rory w/ those performances in mind. But look at Spieth. He’s emerging again but it’s a totally different situation. You’re right, Rory the person is ticked at how we can praise everything about him one second & then be his biggest critic the next. When he won Augusta, everyone seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. If I was him, w/ his up yours money, I might think of ways to say I don’t need it. That’d be a sad day. Appreciate your thoughts. So entertaining & spot on!

@McIlroyRory I think you can be incredible at a sport and be difficult to cheer for. That’s where Rory is for me. I can appreciate how good he is but also be indifferent about his success as person.
