PM Gaas has discovered a remarkable definition of fairness: Darod: 29 districts; Hawiye: 27—17 of them packed into one city; Digil-Mirifle: 15; Dir: 14; and the Fifth Clan: 6. All that is missing now is an obedient audience outside his own circle, prepared to call this justice!

Some of these districts are, of course, not populated exclusively by a single clan. That is beside the point. The question is the rationale under which they were created—and whose interests that logic was meant to serve.

This response is directed at Gaas and concerns the pre-1991 district creations. If you are eager to hear what you got wrong after 1991, that is a debate for another day.

They’re the fake districts Siyad Barre made in the 80s when he knew his time was up. Today you’ll see a so called district with 2 million people and a district with 10k people and apparently they’re meant to have the same share politically 🤣🤣🤣 they were also gerrymandered to steal peoples land.

Even at the time of the 1969 coup, the Somali Republic actually had 8 regions (2 from the North and 6 from the South). The later expansion to 18 regions happened under Siad Barre, who turned small districts into official regions to favor his own clan.

Over 35 years later, Somali "aqoon yahan" are still fixated on blaming Siyad Barre while every Somali region continues to grapple with instability, underdevelopment, and economic hardship. If your education, experience, and political influence carry real substance, then demonstrate it by building fair and equitable institutions, governance systems, and national capacity that you claim were lacking, rather than perennial revisiting of the past. The persistent culture of victimhood, coupled with demands for political concessions while regional leaders engage in the very practices they condemn, is an insult to the intelligence of the Somali people. Accountability must apply equally to everyone. And I am speaking directly to @CabdulfataaxD, @AbdiweliGaas, and the broader class of Somali intellectuals and political elites who had the opportunity to provide leadership but instead allowed division, tribalism, and short-term interests to prevail over national progress. Somalia deserves solutions, institution building, and visionary leadership, not perpetual grievances and tit-for-tat political hypocrisy.

The whole point of a allocating a District is not about "Land" it is about the population. For example, the city of Mogadishu rightly has many districts assigned to it because of the population. One single distrct in Mogadishu has more people than the whole of Bari region combined.

This is how Hawidaar sees that the resources and districts are well distributed among the Somalis! In 2026, their Phd holders are marketing fake comodities. Let alone districts, how many regions have created since Barre's arrival and how many to Darod?
