Suchi Mukherjee, founder of Limeroad had shared her mother's apprehensive reaction to her startup ambitions, encapsulated in the word "sarvanash," meaning disaster. People often ask why our Prime Minister is the true Startup PM. For me, the answer goes back to January 2016. At the Startup India launch, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji quipped, “Why didn’t a chaiwala think of starting a hotel chain?” That single line was not just a remark, it was a mindset shift. It told millions of young Indians that ideas matter more than background. Over the next decade, that belief was backed by action. Startup India simplified regulations, enabled access to capital, and created confidence across the ecosystem. Someone in the USA joined a startup. Someone in Asia invested. Someone else chose to guide founders as a board member. It did not matter whether it was ours or hundreds of others. Those hundreds became lakhs of startups and millions of jobs. Within this ecosystem, PRISM grew into a global hospitality network across 35 plus countries. For me, coming from a small town in Odisha with nothing but a big dream, this journey has truly come full circle. Now in 2026, I feel the same wonder and responsibility I felt in 2016. The Prime Minister’s ability to remember people and stories, like recalling Suchi from Limeroad years later, is a reminder of genuine engagement. An incredible milestone to wrap up 2025! India is now home to over 2 lakh government-recognised startups, with over 44,000 entities recognised this year alone, the highest in a year since the inception of the Startup India initiative. What makes this success sweeter is that nearly 48% of these startups have at least one woman director/partner. These startups have also helped generate over 21 lakh direct jobs. PM Narendra Modi ji's clarion call for an #Aatmanirbhar #ViksitBharat has garnered strong support from our budding entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors. The feat has been accomplished with: 🔸₹25,320+ Cr capital invested in over 1,350 startups by Alternative Investment Funds under the Fund of Funds for Startups Scheme. 🔸₹775+ Cr granted under the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups. 🔸Over ₹585 Cr approved to 3,200+ startups applications by incubators under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. 🔸More than 16,400 new patent applications filed by startups. 🔸Over 34,800 recognised startups being onboarded on GeM, giving them a level playing field to compete and succeed. As we prepare to enter a new year, this spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship will continue to drive growth, opportunities and prosperity for all.

Paul Graham’s advice for future startup founders: “Just learn” “If you make a conscious effort to try and think of startup ideas, you will think of ideas that are not only bad but bad and plausible-sounding—meaning you and everybody else will be fooled by them and you’ll waste a lot of time before realizing they’re no good.” As Paul Graham explains, the way to come up with good startup ideas is to take a step back: “Instead of trying to make a conscious effort to think of startup ideas, turn your brain into the type that has startup ideas unconsciously.” You do this by: 1. Paul Graham’s advice for future startup founders: “Just learn” “If you make a conscious effort to try and think of startup ideas, you will think of ideas that are not only bad but bad and plausible-sounding—meaning you and everybody else will be fooled by them and you’ll waste a lot of time before realizing they’re no good.” As Paul Graham explains, the way to come up with good startup ideas is to take a step back: “Instead of trying to make a conscious effort to think of startup ideas, turn your brain into the type that has startup ideas unconsciously.” You do this by: 1.
