India imports energy worth about ₹150 billion every year; and as our green energy transition moves steadily ahead under PM Sh Narendra Modi Ji’s guidance, we have now achieved 20% ethanol blending. This in effect means that we were able to save about ₹1,40,000 crore on our import bills. At the same time, even as we diversify the feedstock for ethanol production and now include crops like maize which use less water, we have been able to strengthen the agricultural economy by giving ₹40,000 crore annually to our farmers - thus also transforming our Annadatas into Urjadatas. With energy consumption of nearly 5.6 million barrels per day, India, which will soon be the world's third largest economy under the leadership of PM Modi Ji, is now the world’s third largest energy and oil consumer. International Energy Agency has estimated that in the next two decades nearly 35% of the increase in global demand will come from India. In an answer to a question in Lok Sabha, I also informed the August house of how ethanol blended fuel is a greener alternative with 65% lesser emissions. Interacted with senior officers of the Indian Foreign Service participating in the IFS Mid-Career Training Programme-III and discussed India’s energy security and energy diplomacy. As the India Growth Story resonates across the world, India is not merely a participant in the global energy landscape but is increasingly shaping it as the world’s third-largest consumer of energy and oil, third-largest refiner and fourth-largest LNG importer. The sun always existed, but it took Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s leadership to truly harness its power for India’s growth. During the UPA era, * Solar module manufacturing capacity was only around 3 GW; today, it has reached nearly 172 GW. * Solar cell manufacturing, which was zero back then, has now risen to around 27 GW. * India’s solar power capacity has grown from just 2.8 GW to nearly 144 GW, while wind energy capacity has increased from around 21 GW to 55 GW. Through bold reforms, the PLI scheme and a clear roadmap for ingot and wafer manufacturing, India is not only producing #CleanEnergy, but also building a self-reliant #RenewableEnergy ecosystem.

The success of India’s energy diplomacy under the leadership of PM Sh Narendra Modi Ji bears positive results even as the world is faced with serious geopolitical crises. Our energy imports continue uninterrupted even as supply chains choke. We are able to ensure easy availability of fuel for our citizens even as countries worldwide struggle to make energy ends meet. We are able to do this because India has diversified its import basket to 41 sources from the basket of 27 that existed in 2014. India not only secured its energy needs, but emerged stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the future. While many countries struggled with shortages and soaring prices, India protected its citizens because we planned ahead, diversified supply chains, strengthened strategic reserves, expanded sourcing options, and took difficult decisions when required. The success of India’s energy diplomacy under the leadership of PM Sh Narendra Modi Ji bears positive results even as the world is faced with serious geopolitical crises. Our energy imports continue uninterrupted even as supply chains choke. We are able to ensure easy availability of fuel for our citizens even as countries worldwide struggle to make energy ends meet. We are able to do this because India has diversified its import basket to 41 sources from the basket of 27 that existed in 2014. India not only secured its energy needs, but emerged stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the future. While many countries struggled with shortages and soaring prices, India protected its citizens because we planned ahead, diversified supply chains, strengthened strategic reserves, expanded sourcing options, and took difficult decisions when required.
