Palestinian Father Issa Thaljieh, a Greek Orthodox priest serving at the Church of the Nativity, speaks about the reality facing Palestinian Christians under brutal Israeli occupation. He explains that the decline of the Christian population in Bethlehem is not the result of tension with Muslims, but the difficult conditions created by the Israeli occupation, including political pressure, economic hardship, restrictions on movement, siege and repeated lockdowns that shape everyday life in the city. If you’re going to criticize Israel Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸, at least get your facts straight. Bethlehem is in Area A—governed by the Palestinian Authority. It’s NOT under Israeli control. There are ZERO Jews living there. Not one. Before Israel handed Bethlehem over in the 1990s, the Christian population was around 80%. Today it’s less than 20%. That demographic collapse didn’t happen under Israeli sovereignty. I’ve actually been to Bethlehem. Marjorie Taylor Greene hasn’t. Before October 7, I posted stories from the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square— with my family — standing at the place that marks the birth of Jesus. I’ve shown the church, the history, the reality on the ground. Facts matter. Truth matters. If you’re going to speak about the Holy Land MTG, you should at least walk it first.
