We wanted to show the performance and the insane power of the Static Hermes native FFI. But we don't yet support the all language features needed to compile React Native (soon though!), so we improvised. We imported the bindings for DearImGui (a popular C++ imperative game UI library that renders meshes), and Sokol (an amazing lightweight 3D backend in C) and wrote a small demo. "Imperative UI" means that the entire UI and the state of the screen is recreated on every frame, which suits our purposes to demonstrate SH very well. The demo runs 100% compiled native code. JavaScript runs in every frame and recreates the entire state of the screen. It is portable to all platforms, though the screen layout is not optimized for phone. We wrote the demo in C++ and in JS, to compare, and they both ran with the same performance. In the attached videos you can see the demo running at the stable screen refresh rate - 120Hz on my Mac, 60Hz on a old Moto G5 phone. It includes some widgets, an n-body simulation of planets, a playable game demo, etc.

So many little UX/UI edits with the change from web to mobile! So many people said 'just do a wrapper, or pwa'. So glad we went native... coming in a few weeks! We've... - ⏱️ moved the List and End time info from the bottom, all the way to the top. Because they are there to be 'seen' but not 'tapped' - 🟡 added a FAB button to make it easier to add tasks when your list is long - 🧭 added tab bar navigation - woo!! - added modals instead of drop-downs for interactions - 📳 added haptics! and they seriously make it so awesome - 🐣 included some easter eggs - Lulu is now on the screen and tapping her will reveal Barry.. and other stuff (later)

You can now save Editable Images to assets 🥳 Unfortunately the latest changes also involve a permission check that only allows you to turn your own assets into Editable Images ☹️. Lets hope an exception gets added for Plugin / Studio use so that people can apply adjustments to images that are publicly available Still a really good feature, I will be releasing this plugin as soon as Editable Images and the CreateAssetAsync function are out of beta!

Been playing with a character consistency workflow again. This came from Nexora that starts with a single GPT Image 2.0 character sheet and turns it into a multi-shot cinematic sequence in Seedance 2.0. One thing I added to the workflow: I first comped the character, environment, and visual style together in Midjourney before bringing everything into GPT Image 2.0 to build the character sheet. I also pushed it a bit further by generating multiple characters, destinations, and art directions at the same time, then turning those into production-style character sheets and shot sequences. It's interesting how much consistency you can get from a single well-defined character board when the visual language, wardrobe, and environment are established upfront. Working on PT in DX12, made me understand CPU timeline and GPU tmelines lot better. DS3 uses deferred command lists to render GBuffer. I already did a lot of rewiring with command lists for eg execution motion blur command list before PT is rendered. It usually is executed after scene is rendered. LE needs to update buffers for eg to capture at full res and FP16 precision. LE needs to override the camera projection for Jitter/ReverseZ and also for editor. While the Jitter/ReverseZ are ensured that they are updated, the UpdateSubResource was done during draw-call while tracking dirty flags. Now I just bind the my override cb and use Interlocked exchange to capture the core buffers only once and make sure the Camera data is updated correctly before any command lists are executed. In DS2 everything is done on the immediate command list and is single threaded renderer, so things are much easier to track down and update.

PSX DESR support is coming once I REALLY iron down the base device. What devices does it support currently? Anything that uses an IDE drive set to master (slave support is coming) I plan on opening up preorders May 25th assuming everything goes according to plan, but don't feel pressured to buy. I've dumped a lot of money into the development of this product the last 1.5 years. I'm likely going to also open a Patreon to help development costs. Introducing proof of concept React Imgui! The name is a joke, but it is accurate enough. In the last few days I have been working on a prototype of React driving Dear ImGui using Static Hermes. The result is a fully native app written almost entirely in JavaScript, using unmodified React, typed JS, plus a very small amount of glue C++ code and unmodified Dear ImGui and Sokol. The actual renderer translating React into Dear ImGui is written entirely in typed JS using zero-cost FFI. Of course this wouldn't be possible without React's great design and flexibility. I find it really fascinating that I was able to take literally unmodified React, write a little extra JS, and get a functional fully native app so quickly. Of course everything is unoptimized, and prototype code quality, and who knows how buggy, but it seems to work well enough. Please, watch the video to see it in action. If there is interest, I will write a more detailed article.
