Younger gens like to hate on Gen 1 and 2 nowadays, it's kinda sad. It really is one of those cases where you just had to be there to understand what made PokeMania so magical.

I don't actually know when it happened but for a length of time Pokemon was super high effort. Somewhere in the early 2000's it just flipped into slop

Many parents were completely befuddled by the sudden popularity of Pokemon and dismissed it as a fad not dissimilar to beanie babies and pet rocks. Thirty years later it’s the largest most valuable IP in history. Go figure.

Switching art styles was the worst thing they ever did. The art and animation of these movies was incredible.

Pokémon has been softened to death. Nothing is allowed to be mysterious or seem intimidating.

Those first few movies were so good. This song didn’t need to be so excellent but it was cause they cared.
