Happened in Croydon on a Thursday Croydon Incident 28 May 2026 At approximately 5:14 pm on Thursday 28 May 2026 police and armed response officers were seen in the Therapia Lane area of Croydon following reports involving two teenagers According to witnesses both teenagers attempted to run away from officers as police moved into the area During the incident one of the teenagers was reportedly carrying a machete before being stopped by police The suspect allegedly tried to hide or throw the machete underneath a vehicle Officers recovered and seized the weapon at the scene Police and armed officers then continued searching the area for the second teenager who reportedly fled during the incident.

The officers caught up with the individual and gave him commands to stop, but the perpetrator ignored them. The officers eventually apprehended the suspect, who then brandished a knife at them. Despite receiving multiple commands to drop the knife, the suspect refused. As the suspect goaded the officers to shoot him, they deployed their tasers, but unfortunately, it was ineffective. The suspect then advanced towards the officers, who opened fire on him. The suspect was shot, and two civilians were grazed by stray bullets. One of the officers was also shot in the upper torso, which the NYPD Chief of Department suggests may have been friendly fire. All individuals who were hit were transported to the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing. NYPD Chief of Department also said that the suspct had an extensive criminal record.
