Polish President Nawrocki: The friendship between Poland and Türkiye dates back nearly a century. During the period when Poland was erased from the map of Europe, Türkiye was the only state that never formally recognized the partitions of Poland and its loss of independence.

When it was Poland's turn in the ceremonies, the Sultan would ask loudly, "Is the Polish Ambassador here?" and the Grand Vizier would always reply, "The Polish Ambassador is on his way, Sultan, he is delayed," thus never acknowledging the occupation!

The communist authorities had high hopes for it. His visit lasted exceptionally long as for a foreign guest's stay, as long as six days. He was received with the highest honors. 📷It was not Charles de Gaulle's first visit to Poland. This French army officer and oustanding politician stayed in our country in the years 1919-1921 as a member of the French Military Mission. With the rank of major, he fought in the Battle of Warsaw, for which he was awarded the Silver Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari. 📷During his visit to Poland, the President announced that France officially recognised the new Polish western border on the Nysa and Odra Rivers. It was the first Western power to make such a declaration. 📷The entire Poland cheered in his honor. The Polish Radio covered the visit of the President of France. The news reported that the General had not been on a courtesy visit for the ribbon-cutting ceremonies. It had belonged to Poland since the Piast dynasty: in 1349, King Casimir the Great (the last Piast monarch) incorporated Lviv into the Kingdom of Poland, making it the capital of the Ruthenian Voivodeship. For over 400 years under the Polish Crown and later the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Lwów flourished as one of the most important Polish cities, a vibrant hub of science, literature, theater, and education, home to the famous Lwów School of Mathematics and countless Polish writers, artists, and scholars. We lost it in 1939 when the Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland under the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. After World War II, the Yalta and Potsdam conferences confirmed the city’s transfer to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, and the Polish population was largely resettled westward. Here is a collection of rare footage and photos of pre-war Lwów, back when it belonged to Poland:
