My daughter and I spent some time outside to test out our new sled. She asked me to record her now and again in a couple months to see her progress. It's easy to turn, especially for someone like her who needs to start off with something extremely light and easy to use. We had fun with this yesterday. I first took it up and down our street, about 1/2 mile, pushing as fast as I could on resistance #1. The faster I pushed and more force I used, the more resistance I felt. Then, I brought it to our backyard and went back and forth pushing hard on #3. Then, she came outside and we spent almost an hour taking turns going back and forth. She first used resistance #1, then tried switching it to #2. She could definitely feel the difference. I would say that she's now all set up for some good Backyard PT. It took 8 months to get here. This is just heartbreaking and ridiculous. There’s an 82-year-old lady called Mary in Kent. She’s got health problems and she’s been through enough already. She painted her house blue nothing mad, just a nice blue and now Dover District Council are hounding her to repaint it. They’re demanding she forks out £3,000. Three grand! At 82, with her health the way it is. The mad thing is, there are loads of other houses and buildings round there painted all different colours. It’s clearly not some strict rule they’re enforcing on everyone else. But they’re digging their heels in with her and won’t even sit down and talk to her about it. I just can’t get my head round it. Why are they bullying an elderly woman over the colour of her own house? Especially if you’re in Kent or the Dover area, please help make some noise on this one. Share it, tag Dover District Council, tag your local councillors, email them, whatever it takes. This has to stop. She shouldn’t be stressed out and out of pocket at her age over something so petty. My God. This will make you cry. Get a tissue. The most shocking part is Muizzu’s cruel and angry response. This poor woman shouts at Muthalib and Muizzu cause they changed her disabled relative’s flat points from 82 to 74 and as a result, did not give them a flat while others with same points, including some people she knew, were given one. She says she will touch the Qur’an and repeat what she said and also reminds Muizzu and his team that death can come at any time, and that he can never be certain he will even be reelected. But how is that fair, when in the next round her relative will lose more points cause their children will turn 18, while the condition of the house remains exactly the same, leaking water and all. After more than four minutes of speaking, pouring out her frustration with intense emotion, she finally begs, her voice cracking, completely hopeless, also knowing her time is up. She knows she is just an ordinary person and has no power to change anything. She asks Muizzu: “Kommeves javaabeh dhevvabala Raees alhugadah.” Then Muizzu’s response is unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. He dismisses everything she says and in front of everyone, essentially calls her a liar. Yet what she said is something the whole country knows. she hovers rakan. i lock xayah without saying anything. we both know. the first few minutes are quiet. just farming. just existing in the same lane again. i forgot how she moves. or maybe i didn't. she positions like she's reading my mind. always in the right spot. always one step ahead of what i need before i need it. i throw feathers and she's already adjusting. creating space. pulling their attention so i can set up the angle. it's annoying how natural this feels. she engages and i swear to god she strokes that W key different than anyone else. soft then sudden. the way she drifts in and out. testing. teasing. waiting for the perfect moment. then she commits. flash R into both of them. no hesitation. no ping. she just expects me to be there. i am. i'm already autoing before she lands. feathers everywhere. she knocked them up and i pull everything back. double kill. silence on the call. just the sound of her breathing through the mic. "nice" she says. quiet. This is the pen of Leah, the morning after her first night's sleep here. Every black dot you see is a tick. They are black because they're full of her blood, and growing. (This is one of the reasons why I have only white bedding and floor coverings. If she was in newspaper you'd never see this). Poor little Leah is absolutely smothered in hundreds of ticks, and has fleas, too. Despite the old wives' tale, it's very rare for a hedgehog to have fleas. So rare in fact, that a professor of entomology who studies these sorts of things pays me £20 a go when I send him fleas. Additionally, hedgehog fleas are species-specific, so they can't infest or live on any other animal. A hedgehog has to be seriously ill or incredibly weak to attract ectoparasites such as ticks and fleas. And poor Leah is that weak - she is suffering from starvation, AND she has just given birth. A couple clearing out their shed found poor little Leah huddled with her babies in a pile of blankets, where she'd given birth. They live in army barracks, and their garden is tiny, with no suitable hedgehog habitat. Everywhere is kept 'neat'. Despite this, somehow Leah survived. With a shed substituting for a hedgerow and army blankets instead of leaves and moss, Leah managed to make a maternity nest and have her precious babies. But with no food, she was unable to produce enough milk to feed them, and one by one, the babies died. By the time she was found, out of the 7 babies she had given birth to, only 3 were still alive. I saw the bodies so could tell how many days they had survived. The lovely finders had no idea that things were so desperate for our hedgehogs, and that the dramatic decline in insects, due to the way we are 'tidying' our gardens, meant that they are now suffering starvation. Hedgehogs don't eat slugs and snails, they eat beetles and catapillars. Caterpillars make up almost half a hedgehog's diet, and their emergence is perfectly timed with peak baby season, the time of most need. We're in June, peak butterfly time, but how many have you seen lately? Like most people, the finders were completely unaware of how our bad destructive habits are impacting our precious wildlife, until seeing it with their own eyes. They are now committed to improving not just their garden, but the whole Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, and went home armed with leaflets and kitten biscuits and determination. Meanwhile poor tick infested Leah and her 3 surviving babies are safe and warm here, and she's getting good nourishment and care. It's so important these tiny 5 day old babies don't fall victim to the ticks, as they would not survive. I can't use drugs or chemicals as Leah is far too weak and her babies far too vulnerable. So it's just a matter of cleaning her out every day - the very last thing to be subjecting a new mum to. Despite all her hardship, and me meddling, she's a wonderful mum and doing her best to nurture her sweet babies. Last night, her first night here, she ate an entire dish of special Mother and Baby food - enough normally for 2 or 3 hedgehogs. The sight of that empty dish absolutely broke me. It's too early for a prognosis on Leah and the babies, but already, because of them, her little part of the world is going to become more hedgehog-friendly.

It's so important these tiny 5 day old babies don't fall victim to the ticks, as they would not survive. I can't use drugs or chemicals as Leah is far too weak and her babies far too vulnerable. So it's just a matter of cleaning her out every day - the very last thing to be subjecting a new mum to. Despite all her hardship, and me meddling, she's a wonderful mum and doing her best to nurture her sweet babies. Last night, her first night here, she ate an entire dish of special Mother and Baby food - enough normally for 2 or 3 hedgehogs. The sight of that empty dish absolutely broke me. It's too early for a prognosis on Leah and the babies, but already, because of them, her little part of the world is going to become more hedgehog-friendly.
