MY THOUGHTS ON THE PUBLIC EXECUTION: Although I believe it needs to be carried out, I’m somewhat divided on live streaming it … but I truly get it. Sadly, many often confuses the role of an individual believer with that of the government. Contextually, when Jesus said love your enemies He was referring to personal affronts and insults, not to the administration of justice. Nor can we apply the Sermon on the Mount to war and the proper function of government. One of the primary purposes of government is to protect those who obey the law from those who break it. And this sometimes refers to war and executions. Although these things are detestable as we look through the lens of individual believers, it is necessary to restrain evil. The God-ordained, primary role of government is to be a terror to those who do evil. [See Romans 13.] As a Christian, I can be sad about all the events surrounding this and hope that this gentleman comes to know the Lord, but at the same time, completely understand the role of government and the desperate need to administer justice as a deterrent. That’s the proper biblical view. The government did not create this environment—they are simply responding to the horrific death of 13 soldiers. 🛑 STOP APPLYING SCRIPTURES WRITTEN TO INDIVIDUAL BELIEVERS TO THE ROLE GOVERNMENT. That’s a misapplication of God’s Word.

“Thou shall not kill” is a divine command. It’s way above the positive laws within biblical customs and/or our recent legal prescriptions. It has primacy over human legislation (be they traditional or civil). The pope is the vicar of Christ, and custodian of the divine law.

In 1576 The Catholic Church had William Tyndale publically burnt at the stake for "heresy" because he translated the Bible into English. As an atheist my only objection to capital punishment is: you can let an innocent man out of jail but you can't raise him from the dead. When guilt is proven beyond all doubt like with the Fort Hood terrorist, I have zero objection to the death penalty.
