Old demomaker here, maybe you may find my articles worth a read

You can ask Claude/Codex to do it for you these days...

I will be looking at your repo with much attention. I scratched the assembly but did not go as far as reversing everything. I saw you reversed HPlus, this is incredible

Woooow this is such a gem from the early 2000s demoscene I was soooo impressed when this video came out around the same time as kkrieger. True tech art at its peak. Farbrauch is unrivaled

Ok I understand the approach now. It's basically a retranscription of the disassembly. This is effective and you managed to make it work which is pretty nice. On my side I was trying to go back one level up, to a C representation of the code to make it more readable.

I remember times when these demos worked awfully on PC. And now I can watch them right in the browser!

Neat! How long did that take and how much did you have to babysit?

mrdoob's profile picture
mrdoob2 months ago

A couple of days maybe? Definitely still needs some baby sitting to fix some bugs and optimizations but it's amazing how much it does right already.

So nice! The clarity and fidelity is almost too crisp for the non CRT filtered sections, but not sure what original produced. Should you downsample to get that touch of blurriness the original had on the old hardware? Or add an option? Nice job!

++ Farbrausch

And impressive work by the way 👍 if I remember well, Farbrausch used a modified version of UPX back then, in their older prods. Maybe the 64ks circa 2000. Met some of these guys at that time at the Mekka Symposium.

I'm on a Samsung S25 Ultra and this port really pushes my phone, which is otherwise quota capable. Just out of curiosity, can the performance be optimized?

mrdoob, what is this graphics style called? Also, what's your take on using specular with a PS aesthetic?
