If a leadership contest is triggered, the Labour Party cannot exclude the most popular politician of any political party in the U.K. Andy Burnham also has significant executive experience as a former cabinet minister and successful Metro Mayor. The NEC and PM must be explicit that in the event of a contest Andy Burnham will not be blocked should he stand. This should be decided and communicated now. See my interview from Channel 4 below:
