I think it flows from FDR and Truman losing China to the Soviets, we had to pivot hard to rehabilitate Japan into an anti-communist position. It makes sense but it is baffling that there was no proper reckoning with their war crimes.

From what I remember Yockey in his 'Imperium' explains the difference in America's post-war attitude towards Germany and Japan.

Merciful ?? The vid above is a good example of American mercy. Not to mention Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Or the postwar brothels where US soldiers could enjoy the charms of Japanese girls for a piece of chewing gum or Hersheys chocolate, until 1953, if I'm correct.
