Trump's Executive Order on USPS & Mail-In Ballots could finally end rigged elections in California & beyond, regulating mail-in voting at the federal level. The EO puts states on the hook to accompany a list of the eligible voters that are going to vote federally and who they're going to provide mail-in ballots to and also adds a unique intelligent mail barcode for tracking. Trump's March 31, 2026 EO directs the Postmaster General to start proposed rulemaking within 60 days to create uniform national standards for mail-in and absentee ballots. Ballot envelope must be marked "Official Election Mail" with USPS-approved logo/markings. Must be automation-compatible with a unique Intelligent Mail barcode for tracking. Must pass USPS envelope design review for compliance. States must notify USPS at least 90 days before a federal election if they plan to use mail-in/absentee ballots via USPS. States must submit a list of eligible voters at least 60 days before the election. USPS shall not transmit mail-in or absentee ballots to anyone not on a State-specific list. USPS must create and maintain a "Mail-In and Absentee Participation List" for each state. Providing states with lists of enrolled individuals with unique barcode identifiers. All processes must comply with the Privacy Act. Final rule must be issued no later than 120 days from the EO date. This is a HUGE win for election integrity. Speaker Johnson pulls must-pass bill to keep government open amid backlash from right over the short-term bill. He added a measure barring undocumented immigrants from voting in elections, something that’s already illegal but he says is necessary and that Trump wants included. Ds are opposed. Vote was supposed to be today. Unclear how Johnson proceeds especially amid Trump demands. Will he cut a deal with Dems and anger the right and potentially Trump? Or will he push a Trump-backed bill that Dems willl oppose? 11 leg days until a govt shutdown.

Most Californians know that Newsom is a liar and has trashed the state. If Prop 50 passes it's only because we all didn't get out & vote NO in numbers too big to rig. They are counting on you not knowing any of this: Vote as early as possible by mail or in-person. Track your ballot to make sure it's counted at BallotTrax .net. Fix any problems with your ballot by calling your county elections office. Approximately 50% of all ballots put aside in cure pile to be fixed never get fixed and counted. If you mail your ballot on Nov 4 at the post office, go inside and insist they postmark it 11/4 in front of you. Do not drop it in USPS box even if it is before collection time. Nov 2024 election in CA had 33K votes not counted as the postmark was after election day. USPS has a Biden-era rule allowing them to postmark drop box mail the next day and that is what will happen to your mailed ballot if you don't take it inside to get postmarked in your presence.

We spent some time at the #TaxSymposiumKE hosted by NTV Kenya's #BusinessRedefined & to discuss Finance Bill 2026's proposal to amend Sec52 of the Income Tax Act to provide that the sunset date for filing Income Tax returns will switch from June 30th to April 30th with that of Nil Returns to Jan 31st. Here are the submissions made: · The Revenue Authority argues that with pre-populated returns, the argument for the June 30th sunset date is weak, especially for payroll Kenyans · The Revenue Authority further argues that the reason why iTax has been enhanced to include a dash board is to enable businesses to have visibility of their sales & purchases as captured by eTIMS invoices & Withholding Tax certs on near real time basis · The Revenue Authority says that the plan is to ensure that on Jan 1st, 2027, every taxpayer on KRA's registers will receive a detailed breakdown of their books as pre-populated from eTIMS invoices, Withholding Tax certs & third party data in readiness for the April 30th sunset date for filing · Fredrick Kimotho from Deloitte Kenya argues that there will be significant strain by this adjustment especially given the compliance challenges being experienced from Income & Expenses Validation. The authority says it will: · Abandon the excel file based filing in favour of a purely web based filing system. So taxpayers won't be downloading · Expand the scope of the AI-powered virtual assistant, Shuru, for more complex filing · Upgrade iTax ahead of April 30th, 2027 which will be the debut phase of staggered filing of income tax returns PS: · Worth noting the authority says there shall be no Incomes & Expenses Validation for the 2026 year of income, apparently it was only for 2025 · Question, how does this align with the Finance Act 2026 amendment to Sec75 of the Tax Procedures Act? · If the law provides that the taxpayer has the right to confirm or amend a pre-populated return, doesn't it follow that there shall be a validation exercise accompanying this in the case where an amendment is done?
