US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent: "President Trump has instructed me to rethink the sanctions regime. For a long time, we'd have what I would call 'lazy sanctions.' We are going for the maximum impact sanctions now. It's a new sanctions regime. We come in, we hit them hard, we hit them fast, we hit them heavy. And that's what we are doing with Iran. And President Trump has instructed me that if we need to, we will go to a 10 with sanctions to bring president Putin to the table. But I'm optimistic that he will be able to get him to the table without increasing the sanctions. But all options are on the table to increase and go to maximum energy sanctions on Russia if needed."

We greatly appreciate the steps taken by each country in response to Russia for this war. And now there is one more important decision by the United States – sanctions against two large Russian oil companies. Pressure on Russian oil is an instrument to end the war, I'm sure. And all Russian oil companies – including Rosneft, Lukoil, Putin’s own oil company Surgutneftegas, and others – must be blocked. Their access to the world market must be cut off – this will bring Putin back to reality and greatly limit the Russian war machine’s money. And I thank President Trump for this path of pressure, and I thank the countries that are already taking these steps. And I called on all participants of our Coalition of the Willing to join these steps. Thank you to everyone who is helping!

President Trump: Putin is not looking for more war, sanctions on Russia will not be removed as of now, next Thursday is an "appropriate" deadline for Ukraine. Speaking with Brian Kilmeade Brian Kilmeade of Fox News, he also said that the US sanctions against Russian oil companies will go in "very soon," and he's not pulling them off. "They're very powerful. It makes it very hard to sell oil. That's a big thing. Their whole economy is based on oil. But no, I'm not doing anything having to do with taking back sanctions," Trump said. The US president also said that next Thursday is an appropriate time to give Ukraine to agree to a peace deal, adding that "if things are working well, you tend to extend the deadlines."
