Their eyes can pull fear out of you

Bald eagles were chosen as the U.S. national emblem in 1782 due to their strength, majesty, and long life. They can spot prey from up to 2 miles away, thanks to their incredible vision. Bald eagles nearly went extinct in the 20th century due to DDT pesticide use, but conservation efforts helped them recover. They were removed from the endangered species list in 2007, a major success story for wildlife protection.
