We have nasty storms every winter. My son was born on one such night. We couldn't get on the highway because of massive fallen cedars and had to detour. That was almost 40 years ago.

Gibbs, a Gary native, spoke with MS NOW on the conditions in his hometown, saying the predominantly Black city has historically been overlooked and that it’s unfortunate it takes a crisis of this magnitude for Gary to receive national attention. Trae Tha Truth has been on the ground assisting residents directly through his Relief Gang organization. Along with distributing food, cleaning supplies and other necessities to families in need, Trae and his team have been helping remove fallen trees from homes and streets as the community continues to recover from the storm.
