NESO insiders, the people responsible for keeping the lights on, say operators have "lost control of the system" and that a major blackout is now an "engineering certainty." Today I started a 4-day oversight visit to our borders to assess the welfare of SANDF troops, the state of equipment and facilities, and the conditions under which our soldiers serve. We will be focusing on Mpumalanga and KZN for this round. This visit forms part of our ongoing efforts to improve the conditions of service and ensure that those who protect our borders are properly supported and equipped.

Today is Thank A First Responder Day. Here’s a little throwback to spending the day with Rural Metro Fire in Tucson, Arizona and trying on some of their gear. Today we share our gratitude for first responders and their families. Their hard work and sacrifice keeps us all safe. I was at Aba to inspect a couple of roads that are undergoing rehabilitation. I am happy with the progress of work, particularly at Cemetry Road. The contractor has also taken the initiative to desilt the drainage system, which demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a long-lasting and sustainable road infrastructure. It is worth noting that the rehabilitation efforts extend beyond Cemetry Road, with a total of nine roads currently undergoing partial and comprehensive rehabilitation. All the roads are being handled by reputable companies, including CCECC, Craneburg, and MCC. Regardless of the weather conditions, we remain dedicated to the task of rebuilding Aba for the benefit of our people.

Two months of winter are already behind us, and the "middle finger" of the Ukrainian people is still held high in putin's face. Because Ukrainians refuse to submit, even in such brutal conditions. Ukraine survives thanks to something that should be spoken and written about as often as possible: an incredibly effective system of repairs and improvisation. Damaged transformers are replaced, power lines are reconnected, generators are moved, and mini-grids are built. But the resources of this system are not infinite. All of this is created and restored every single day by the hands of Ukrainians. Those who remain in Kyiv and other cities, boiling water on gas stoves, running generators, using firewood, or lighting candles - we are all part of the resistance. Every household that manages to stay warm, every hospital that keeps running, every business, and every "Point of Invincibility" with electricity is a strategic defeat for the Kremlin. Happy 4th of July? Millions of Americans think they’re celebrating 250 years of “freedom” today, but what they’re really celebrating is 250 years of corruption, endless war, and a capitalist system that exploits the many to enrich the few. The uncomfortable truth is none of us in the U.S. are free. We are owned by banks, exploited by billionaires, and controlled by two parties that sell us out at every turn. Freedom is just the illusion they sell to hide the cage and prevent people from ever questioning the dictatorship of capital that controls, exploits, and monetizes every aspect of our lives from birth to death. Where is the freedom when a handful of billionaires [and a trillionaire] hoard ungodly fortunes through the mass exploitation of our labor and the mass extraction of resources that belong to our communities? Where is the freedom when our tax dollars fund endless wars, genocide, and the mass murder of children abroad all to further enrich the billionaire class? Where is the freedom when 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to afford basic needs like housing, healthcare, and groceries? Where is the freedom when 75% of Americans can’t afford a median-priced home, 100 million Americans live with medical debt, and 140 million Americans are poor or low-income? There is no freedom here. We are all prisoners of a decrepit capitalist system that keeps us trapped in the rat race by demonizing the one economic system, socialism, that would put the economy in the hands of the people. Imagine a world where workers own the means of production, resources are used for the benefit of all, and decisions are made to meet the basic needs of the people rather than the endless greed of billionaires. That is socialism, and there is nothing scary about it. For one of the boxes we had to queue for a good while as there were so many people wanting a photograph with it. The conditions of the boxes varied but very few were in a reasonable state. Clearly right that the number of times people experience a place should factor in to prioritisation of their maintenance. It makes us think of other “civic facades” like airport arrival terminals and train stations - often the first impression you get of a place.

It's an excellent initiative, and I'd like to thank all of those who worked with us, SAS Telesat, Airbus, Aerospace Lab, Arianespace, and all of those who will be joining this adventure. But we have to go even further. In 10 years' time, Europe should have a quality of connection that is comparable to 5G everywhere. And it is possible. This should be able to reach data centers in orbit. And if that technique is mastered and is accessible cost-wise, that will be an immense success. And Europe must be part of that race for reasons of sovereignty and economic opportunity. We, therefore, must launch a European alliance direct to device. This battle is fundamental for us. When a citizen goes through a white zone, when the Earth's networks break down because of catastrophe, we have to be able to work from space. That is essential. And in order to do this, Europe has all of the necessary building blocks. We have the telecom operators. We have the satellite manufacturers and operators. We have the constellations. And we have the technology. What we need today is a joint team, a joint resolve, and joint investment. So I call upon all telecom operators, constellations, operators, and industrialists, to build, without any further ado, a European alliance of direct to device capable of supplying, before 2030, an offer that would be in line with the requirements of international qualities. For these, in order for this to work, Europeans must engage themselves, must organize themselves, and remain open to all of the partners who are present here today on the African continent, the Asian continent, our American partners, Asian partners, when they want this type of open partnership.》
