This is incredible! Huge credit to the team delivering this. Much attention on AR/VR but this technology is still likely to provide better sensory feedback than any current for haptics. This must be the current ideal in no patient-risk training.

I met liver physiotherapist Ashlea Hargreaves and Charlotte Vockins, a liver transplant patient and ExaLT trial participant who is now a leading advocate for liver health policy. In Long Covid and ME/CFS patients, Dr. VanElzakker and his team are using PET-MRI scans to determine areas of neuroinflammation. Analysis of blood from Long Covid patients undergoing the scans “found several mediators associated with vascular problems that correlated with the neuroinflammation signal.” These included elevated L-selectin, responsible for leukocyte extravasion into tissues; and fibrinogen, a main blood clotting component.

Radiation Dosage Varies 10X From One Hospital To Another, Causing 5,600 New Cases Of Cancer. The American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology & the United States Preventive Services Task Force do not recommend the use of heart CT scans for patients with a low or high risk of heart disease because CT scans could be more harmful than beneficial due to the relatively high dose of radiation. "Tens of millions of adults would be exposed to relatively high levels of radiation through this procedure. Doctors still have not established a standard dose of radiation to be used for heart CT scans & doses for this test vary from one hospital to another, with some patients getting 10X the amount of radiation as patients in another hospital." A 2009 study showed that one heart CT scan for the 50 million Americans who would receive the average radiation dose, these scans would result in 5,600 new cancer cases. The number of new cancer cases would be even higher if individuals were screened more than once in their lifetime. Radiation from CT scans is even of concern to the FDA even when the CT scans are necessary. On October 9, 2009, the FDA announced that it was notifying healthcare professionals that 206 patients who were being tested for stroke received CT radiation doses that were 8X the expected level at one particular medical facility. While this event involved a single kind of diagnostic test at one facility, the FDA warned that “it reflects more widespread problems with CT quality assurance programs.” Each year, over 600,000 Americans die from heart disease even though heart disease can be prevented. Although heart CT scanning may be a useful tool in detecting blockages in heart arteries, there is not enough evidence to show that this test is worth the risks, especially compared to traditional risk factor assessment. Our team has two incredible, full-time professionals—Mary and Ebonie—dedicated to dealing with insurance. They advocate for our patients, so our patients can focus on healing. This week? They’ve been on repeat calls with the same insurer, trying to add procedure codes so patients can receive coverage for sensation preserving mastectomies. Twice now, after 30+ minutes on the line, the call just ends. No reference number. No resolution. Just—terminated. And without a reference number, there’s no way to track it, no accountability, and no clear path forward. All we have are the first names of the representatives who hung up. This happens often. And it’s exhausting. But we won’t stop showing up for patients. We’ll keep sharing these stories—because this shouldn’t be normal. Patients deserve better. Providers deserve better.

Today, World Health Organization (WHO) supported the medical evacuation of 47 patients and 129 companions from #Gaza, despite the ongoing challenges to humanitarian operations and access constraints. Patients travelled to: - Spain: 13 child and one adult patients - Türkiye: 2 adult patients - France: 4 child and one adult patients - Norway: 6 child and 2 adult patients - Jordan: 18 child patients We are grateful to all the governments and health workers for their support and specialised care for the critical patients from Gaza. Over 14,000 patients are still in need of urgent care. We urge more countries to step forward to accept patients for medical evacuations. Ceasefire!

The Prime Minister's threats of removing training places are bad for doctors and bad patients. These threats are not a credible way to end this dispute. We're in talks with government today to reach a deal that doctors can support, and that's good for patients, to avoid strikes.
